Weekend Update 3/22/15

I spent all afternoon hand-building an N scale code 55 #8 (16"/12" radii) curved turnout.  If this little gem works, it will complete the Seaboard System track on my layout, being the final piece of the puzzle needed to complete the yard ladder at the south end of Hamlet Yard:

Was able to test a possible run on the Spring Grove/Paper Mill branch.  I will run a coal train as it's own turn, instead of part of regular plant switching duties.  In the two tracks, I can hold twelve cars.  I put twelve cars on the train and ran switching duties, with my kids at the throttle.  First time for each of them, and only one derailment, as when I told my daughter to stop the train, she turned the knob on UT4 to right instead of left and put it into notch 8.  Luckily, was able to get train stopped before cars took a dive to the floor, with only two cars derailing at end of siding.  Here is my son behind the controls of Maryland Midland #302.

Thanks guys, I haven't weathered in a few years and since getting back in. I got the idea for washes
from this video. He used thinner washes, same can be accomplished with water. I also want to get

Well, I decided to make a diorama to take photos of equipment outside before I got back to college. Here is my result after 5 hours of work and plenty of hours for drying:



I don't think it is too bad for something in a rush and only using materials on hand.

Madly scrambling to (finally) modify the cars for my Pennsy train sets before I sell them  (because I'm now NH layout). Nice to have prototypical cars so these RR Pullmans got rebuilt:




A 14-section and an 8-1-2. When I glue the modified section walls in I'll fill the gaps in the joints. Then of course primer and painting.

Not much modeling. Dog sick. I did scrounge out a few roof vents that will likely become thing am a jigs in the pulp processing area of the papermill.

Good times! My boys both love switching duty. I need to learn how to build turnouts and then pass that skill along to them so they can build whatever switching layouts they want to.

spent this weekend at the Foley Model Train show , in Foley Alabama...promoting N scale via our T-Trak modules.
It was a pleasure meeting and talking trains with Aaron -chessie system fan!!!!!

Base weathering done to water treatment facility. Will hold off on the powders until the chill and damp of spring is over. Do all of the dull coats outside, live in an apartment, so don't do any spraying indoors. Also still needed are some black and white round ATSF decals and gin poles added to roof each side of the ladders. Still no scenery here, have several little storage buildings to add to this area.

Not a whole lot of progress this weekend.  I did get another building together.  I am working on a new building for Specialty Minerals.  This is the bagging plant and warehouse for bagged specialty limestone products.  It still needs paint and detailing.  There is an interior loading dock, which is just barely visible in the photos. It is a scratch-bash with a Bachman Car Shop kit and Evergreen Styrene sheet, plastruct components, etc.
