I seem to recall reading somewhere that the Reading had these, but I have never seen a photograph of one.  I notice that Rapido did not offer a Reading, either.  Did Reading buy some used from somewhere at some point?  Enlightenment, anyone?

No, the Reading never bought any of these coaches.  Their heavyweight coaches were similar in having a low arched roof, which may be where the confusion is coming into play but they never had these particular coaches.

:|          Don't forget the Cotton Belt (St. Louis Southwestern) and the Seaboard. That is what the Un Decorated car is for. The Southern Pacific later operated the former S.L.S.W. cars after passenger service ended on that road. I saw one in Ogden, Utah painted silver with a scarlet letter board. Nate Goodman (Nato).

Different car no? - Deluxe Coach.

I have an ad (sort of) talking about these cars.  It has a picture of the 10 window but talks about the Seaboard etc. which all seem to be the Deluxe Coach.  But the thing that's curious is it mentions that the GN had some.  I wonder which style.

This release is total east coast bias.

Total northeast bias actually.  But it makes sense to "go big" on such an esoteric model with the roads/schemes that will get the biggest splash.  As with the HO model, road/schemes from other geographical areas will be tapped if the first run is successful.

Plus, that's what the undecorated cars are for — for modelers who choose not to wait to see if their preferred roads are featured in a subsequent run.

The NH intercity 10-window PBLWs (which is what the Rapido model is) traveled daily to Manhattan, both Penn Station and GCT, so that's an easy justification.  Occasionally, they traveled further south on Philly and Washington trains.  But it would be a rarity that they would travel on any PRR rails other than NY-Phila and NY-Wash.  Not to say it didn't happen, but it would be the exception rather than the rule.

Thanks for confirming what I was remembering from personal observations of PRR trains south of 30th Street.  Saw plenty of the stainless cars with the "orange" band by the windows, but hard pressed to recall the PBLW's between 30th St and Wilmington over many Saturday mornings of rail fanning in the 60's.

Exactly my plan for the Lehigh Valley cars.  The proto LV cars had a slightly different roof profile, but simple paint jobs!

Don't forget that the SAL cars went to SCL and the KCS also had these "deluxe" coaches.

I believe that the ends were different on these cars as well... and I wouldn't necessarily call the first scheme they used a simple one...

Also, the Lehigh Valley Osgood-Bradley cars had 11 windows, not 10 - which would still make any modified Rapido model a foobie.

Unless you kitbash the car into the 11-window commuter version.  That's easier to do with a new etched-brass window band than "straightening" the roof.  The roof is doable, but it gets expensive as you would need a donor car to form the proper roof ends and it's not as if only one model would suffice.

If I was in that boat with New Haven, I would seriously consider it because a model that is the base for a kitbash and 90% accurate is better than starting from scratch.  I probably won't pursue 11-window coaches because I have RDCs, Washboards and ex-parlor heavyweights to serve in commuter consists.  But if Rapido decides to make them down the road, I'll pick up a couple.
