Weekend Update 9/1/13

Been packing for my move to Raleigh.

I was eagerly expecting a package of pure, unadulterated awesome today.  Instead I got a note-of-missed-delivery-fail and a fruitless run to two different post offices trying to track the package down. I am not a happy camper.

Ebay delivery #1 came Wednesday with a couple of IM 3 bay hoppers.
Ebay delivery #2 came yesterday with an Atlas GP-30.
MBK delivery came today with f40PH Phase 3, P42 Phase Vb, Amfleet pack and reefer.

Nice hat trick if you ask me!!

Work progresses on the new home of the Juniata Division.  First pic is looking toward the 6x6 walk-in closet.  I'm having it lit and wired to be my workspace.

With my three M-630s now off my workbench and out for painting, I have returned to work on my model of BCOL 6508 (Cook-Diner for the Prince George Auxiliary). This week I got the windows for one side roughly drilled and cut out:




I hope to get the second side done this weekend, and I will then begin the long task of filing the window openings square with needle files.

During this past week I was also privileged to attend the inaugural op session on Gary's Tehachapi BC layout.

Not too much modelling this week; too many damn meetings ( ) BUT.... our "meeting room" isn't the worst place in the world...............

We "wandered" over the Jason Shron's "train in the basement" this week for a "meeting" (and to see the progress on his Spadina yard layout - whoa !) Jason' the President of Rapido Trains Inc. (my boss) and he built a section of a VIA coach in his basement - right down to the ticket folders..... you can check out a video tour here:

During this past week I was also privileged to attend the inaugural op session on Gary's Tehachapi BC layout.

And I was very privileged to have Tim serving as our company photographer, between his train assignments.  Here are some photos Tim took during the inaugural session, held this past Wed Aug 28; there are more posted in my Engineering thread.  Thanks for taking them Tim!!

SD40-2's are still around and kicking in DPU service; one is seen here starting the descent past the Monolith cement plant, meeting a northbound auto-rack train led by a CP 9516, which is waiting to enter single track and continue its journey back to BC:



[The Van-Kam trailer (Tim's model) is coming from BC.  This is the obligatory Canadian content.  ]  The same rack train is seen a while later descending the Pass, having just navigated Tehachapi Loop and seen here crossing Tehachapi Creek just below the Loop:

The experience of watching your layout come to life in the company of a very talented group of good friends is truly hard to beat!

A former co-worker started a new job at CR England last week.  I had previously purchased a trailer from Brian (flight2000) but I had nothing to pull it with.  So I pulled out a Lineside Models 2003 Kenworth Anteater T2000 kit I had and found a Microscale set of decals at my LHS.  I added a fuel tank to the trailer and a couple of small decals to it, and painted and decaled the tractor.

Here is the completed model picking up a back haul at Stone Container Corp.

An eventful modelling week...

1) Participated in the inaugural, and successful, Tehachapi BC session at Gary's place.  Good job Gary!

2) Finished and installed the Fife limestone Loader



3) built and installed 4 of the 5 train order semaphores needed for the bi-annual Vanrail invitational op session in two weeks...here they are in westbound station order

Mark, what are you using to actuate the semaphore arms?
I have a scratch built GWR Home/Shunt signal that I would love to get into working order for my N-Trak module, even if the Dapol signals are much nicer looking.
