Haven't accomplished much this week except to tinker with some new ideas.

I'm still digesting your blog post (and a bowl of ice cream), but I agree with your decision to nix the coal trestle and the lift bridge.

Adding part of the El to the layout is an interesting idea to say the least, and if there is anyone who could pull it off, it is you.
I like the idea of making it removable to go with the change of the times, and as an aside, perhaps you might think of making some structures that could then utilize some of the gained real estate that results from the loss of the El.

I'm enjoying being able to watch one of your larger projects go from the initial conception (even better since I play a small backhanded role in it) all the way till its completion, which I hope nothing will prevent.

My Linside ready mix truck is almost complete:






Its OK I guess. It still does not look right in my eyes. I think the water tank is located too high. There is a large gap between the cab and mixer crank, and the details I added to the rear feel a little clunky. The GHQ and Deluxe wheels look a lot better than the Lineside wheels though. This model will probably find its way to the back of the Big Dig on the layout.


The CMW R190/Wiking ready mix truck came out a bit better. I still have lots of details and paint to work on.

This is Showcase's Loadstar flatbed. From arm's length it does not look to bad, but that orange peel really shows up on close inspection!

A little more progress on the lower section. I am not pleased with the concrete. I used WS smooth it, which is fine but it lacks detail, and the color never seems right. I have tried a combination of colors but it always looks to yellow, white, or blue. The structures are supposed to be abandoned left overs from a bygone era, and serve no purpose other than filling an area with some detail. There is an old factory complex near me that has this type of setup, and that was the inspiration.

Here's a little firehouse diorama (6 3/16" x 5 11/16") that I've been working on but it still needs shingles, weathering, American flag, signs/details & figures to be considered finished. Structure is scratch built from Evergreen styrene, Grandt Line windows/doors & some stolen parts from a Model Power kit. Vehicles are CMW and modified Athearn. The brick driveway & sidewalks are from Kancali. Any comments welcome & it may go up for sale once completed - all serious offers considered.

I got my daughter for the summer , so not much train stuff this weekend, I consider it a good hand off. the only thing I really did was play with Helicon remote and focus to make this:

Started working on the first of three New Haven heavyweight diners.  I'm using the MTL parlor as my core.  Milled off the sides and took the angle out of the ends.

The last tough part is the roof, which I still don't know how I'm going to do.  I have to take the A/C duct off the parlor roof.  The best probably is to use the non duct side of two roofs and splice them together lengthwise.
