A good example of historic preservation...



Malt train needed a boost to get from 19-twenty-fooking-three into 1971... so some NKP SDs were brought back from the scrappers...



Moments later this amalgam of beanpoles and matchsticks collapsed under the weight of the train...




One the way back down the hill, Extra 3578 made it back out onto its old home rails unassisted.



You'll notice that some adjustments were made to the elevations on the high line...



Thomas hasn't seen this much traffic since it was built.  It was quite a sight seeing the Broadway limited and the Sunset Limited traverse these bent rails in rural West Virginia...



The main now follows what was the Kingsford Switch...  the old main leads off to nowhere representing a yet-unnamed interchange.  (My vote goes to the Laurel Valley...)



Back down the hill across the Ed's Mangina Gulch trestle.





Past the Malt joint, complete with Laurel Valley Brewing Co. and Duff's Beer trucks...

I have 4 of these ... they are finicky .. sounds like the relay has gone bad / is failing .. I would replace it with one of those electronic ones from Tony's

On Thursday we packed out.  Camping for a few days in a mostly empty house.  We saved Internet, a small TV, my xBox, and a DVR.

I would have preferred to ship it flat but the truck was on its way to pick up another load headed to Colorado.  For what it's worth, it's resting atop all of our mattress boxes.

The truck finally left with our entire household aboard as it heads to our eighth duty assignment in just 17 years.

Among other things, this weekend I have been painting up the DPM Credit Union, assembling and painting an old LL Switch Tower kit, and finishing up my kitbash of the Walthers New River Mine.

Hey, for that New River Mine kitbash, did you follow what MRR did with theirs during the Virginian or was that kitbash from your own plans?

Hello - its a funny story- I was in HO up to a few months ago, and I made the HO kitbash, following the MR article. I decided to do the N scale version, BUT I had lost the magazines with that article. I did the N by memory some, and by finding a few pictures on the web, and from photos that I had taken of my HO version before I sold it.
On both versions, I added my own changes, mostly with the part of the building over the coaling tracks, taking it down to 2-track size.
I still have to do the Stairs, and some weathering. I also chopped the slag bin part, down to two sections from the three. (like several others, I didnt follow on what MR did, as the 'extra round bin' parts were too expensive of an add-on.

Its kind of a scary thing - taking a $40 kit and cutting it up, but the article does point out all the cut lines, which run mostly in line with existing edges or windows, etc. Fun to do.

Thanks for the reply. I plan on chopping up a New River kit like MRR did for my layout, so it is nice to see a proof of concept in N Scale.
