Chris, the trestle is shaping up nicely. Be sure and post photos of the finished scene.

I have been working on getting one of my sections of my sawmill/cement module closer to being finished. It is one section where the two sidings split off the mainline. I have gotten some dirt and static grass in and started to put down some bushes and trees.

I had EZ Line on the phone poles for the photo shoot, and as I took the module outside, I snagged the EZ Line on a bush and ripped it all off.

Here is my progress so far, The WP boxcar is also my first serious attempt at weathering anything. Beyond dusting on some black weathering powder anyway:

I am still trying to decide what type of industry to put in the big flat empty area just to the side of the gondola. I am open to suggestions. The era is current.

A scrap metal dealer is an interesting industry to model and is one which loaded gondolas.  Possibilities include a perimeter fence, a small office building, some piles of junk, and perhaps a small crane to lift the scrap into the gondolas.

Scrap yard; asphalt or other chemical unloaded; one can even find team tracks still in regular use. FWIW you have nailed the scenery, EZ line bush ripping not withstanding.

Here is a well explained version of a modern transload site located in Gardners, PA.  It would fit well in the area you are looking at

Gee, Nils.
Never thought I'd say your "Bridge O' Wonder" was becoming second / third fiddle to your other modules.

Very much digging your scenery.
And where you get those dwarf signals?

Been working a bit on Eric's Wye Knot modules:

Gotta love sunlight & focus stacking  :D

And where you get those dwarf signals?

back in the day I used to make similar dwarf signals from the signals included in the cheap plastic Bachmann signal set. It contained signal bridge and bunch of 2-color (full height) signals.  I cut off the heads and put couple of small LEDs in it.  Then I sealled/filled the back with 5-minute epoxy to cover up the LEDs. Then I would paint it black and install it. This was pre-SMD LED days but I managed to find some small LEDs. Magnet wire was used as electical leads.

This was on my workbench but today I transfered it to the layout. Next is to blend it in.

Kato NS SD70ace build project is coming along nicely.

Anyone know where I can find decals for the small SD70ace model name? I put the SD70M's from the Microscale set for now.

Finally got the rocks painted that I installed last week.  Still have a few more areas to complete around the forward side of the river.  Once this is complete, I will start working on adding the water.  Hopefully will start this within the next month.  Here are some pictures of what I completed this weekend.

Finished up the Journal newsprint dock, and I am okay with it. Not exactly happy with the weathering as it seems a little heavy-handed, but this will do for now.

Worked on the pavement around the Lincoln Warehouse and the Journal dock. I spent most of Saturday trying to figure out how to build a decent driveway.  Finally decided on three layers of .030 sheet. One for the base. one for the sloped driveway, and one for the sidewalk surface. Some .030 square rod was utilized for the curb.

Best wishes, Dave

Honestly, I have been putting off finishing the bridge for some strange reason I can't put my finger on. I have a small amount of working with styrene left, but I have been lagging. I need to get to it before IHX. If I get the styrene work done, I can paint it, and then get the scenery in more permanently.

I wanted to test out some scenery techniques on the offset module before I moved to the bridge.

Dwarf signals are from NJ International and based on the style of the resistors that came on them, they look pretty old. Found em in the bottom of a drawer at my LHS. LED's are not SMD, but they are pretty small. I have some Bi-Color SMD LED's I am currently working on installing in some BLMA searchlight targets. I'm gonna try to build some dwarfs of my own.

Thanks for the input guys, I like the idea of a transfer track. I have some places for covered hoppers already, I was wondering, are there transfer facilities for chemicals? Do they have temporary storage tanks or tanks of any kind? I thought it would be cool to have somewhere to set out some tank cars.

I thought of a team track, but there is not really access to both sides of the car, and I feel like you should have that on a team track.

I do also like the idea of a scrap yard.  Mike, yours looks great. I really like the trails that snake through the yard. Did you use any castings from monroe models?

I was also thinking of making the industry non rail served and just setting some cars out of the way on the old spur.

Here is some fun with Helicon Focus. Just downloaded it and started messing around.
