Kato: SD40-2 ReRuns Coming!

I can use the early units as a basis to start a few CP units as they are a good starting point for CP 5565 up to the mid 5700's. Of course, it'd be nicer to start with a painted CP unit or undec. Hopefully they'll have undec shells available. In the meantime, looks like I'll bite on a pair of CNW's and a WSOR (black trucks and fuel tanks).

I went back to look at the first C&NW release and it looks like they used the 'System' logo on those too. 

I don't know that they ever had that with the 'Falcon Service' paint.

There's an IC Deathstar in here, which is period appropriate for me. KCS got left out again (!) but of the pain is easier to strip then the older ones on eBay, I should be ok.

Easy fix. Purple power, q-tip, and a decal. Much easier than painting a whole loco.

Hopefully they'll at least make a halfhearted attempt at getting the Heritage units correct and not give us 20 'easy fixes'.

Nothing here for me in this round, but I'm good- Kato is tops in my books.  Their innards are the best in the business.

The Trainboard guys seem a little more accepting and posting far less complaints than here, at least as of earlier this afternoon.

We ought to follow their lead.  It is good news, and if anyone expected an unprecedented release of all hundred (?) road names possible, they shouldn't have.

Just out of curiosity, from memory, what is the largest batch of separate road names anyone can recall from the bigs at any one release?

Only The Harlem Globetrotters win at a 99+ pecent rate.  Kato is not compeing against the likes of The Washington Generals, Boston Shamrocks, New Jersey Reds, Baltimore Rockets, or Atlantic City Seagulls.  Kato is competing against the titans of the model railroad industry.  Every day and every release they compete for a share of the model railroad 'pie'.

Every release will thrill some, annoy others and disappoint more than a few.  Complaining often means that there are unmet expectations.  Folks at Railwire may just have higher expectations than other forums...

I would certainly like to have every rd# specific detail for every era right down all the add on details like in HO, but I also like paying well under $100 for a brand new, well running, well made diesel. That to me is one of the things that makes n scale special.

Fully agree there, $80 and sometimes $50 for a well running, nicely detailed Kato in N or $120+ for a HO loco? Give me the N scale one any day of the week. Hell even with the route I've gone of having someone else paint and detail my locos they still come out cheaper than if I was to model the local rail scene here in Australia with the RTR HO available (most locos whilst well detailed are in excess of $260).

My only gripe with Kato is they can do quite amazing things, they just do and don't and it's just a shambles sometimes with what they do.

Ok, maybe this has been addressed and I missed it, but here goes. didn't the early and mid released from Kato use different mechanisms? If so, did the mechanism from the mid fit the early and will that mechanism be used for both this round, or will they actually use the mechanism originally used on the early model?

Yes, they used different mechs.  The shells not readily interchangeable between the mechs. 

The early models on this round will use the early mech.
The mid-pro models will use the mid-pro mech.
That's a pretty sure assumption unless you see otherwise.  (Note I say see, not hear.)

Kind of like the FVM Heritage GEVOS, the  cab is correct but the rest of the unit is wrong.
