I reread the thread, Dave, but must have missed something. Did you put BFS on *another* driver other than the center one, with the intent of getting your traction back from a different wheel other than the middle one? Is there BFS on the center AND another driver now?
I happen to have a full set of those PSC K4 drivers, and the center driver with the traction tire definitely has a threaded crankpin hole. I just checked.So the crankpin *should* screw out, but as Victor points out, you'd have to turn the eccentricarm around and around with it, which means moving the wheel, etc.And getting all that back together so the crankarm ends up in the right spot is hard.Unsoldering from the pin is easier.
In theory, the eccentric arm should end up in its original location (since the crank pin should be tightly seated in the same location as before removing it). If not, then use some thread locking compound to lock it in the appropriate position. Basically, what Victor said.
Yes, in theory. Heh. I don't think I would count on that. However, if you just remember where it was when you started unscrewing it, yes, you should be able to just put it back there, and if it won't stay because it loosens up after being unscrewed, ... yep, Loctite to the rescue. (although maybejust some ACC or something, if it holds and you want to be able to get it out again)
That is what I don't understand. The thread is a single grove in metal. No matter what you do, the crank pin will thread into the hole in the same exact place it was in originally. Unless you jam it in and cross thread it. Since the crank pin will screw back in only one way, it should tighten at the same exact spot where it was originally tightened.
Dave .. not being a steam head, can you post a couple of pictures of the problem area?
