YES! I've been there! It's the dank place with all the chianti bottles? It is better than Buddy's, I just couldn't remember the name.

I replaced a few of the brown trees with some bigger gray trees.  Not very noticeable in the photo, but it makes a difference seeing it person.  Added a few "improved" pine trees on what will be the left edge of the forest.  I'm thinking that it will act as a buffer for the supertrees, as there is some clearance needed there to reach some ground throws.

I think the next step will be painting the tunnel portals, seating them in place, then tackling the retaining wall needed by the right portal.  According to the PRR drawings, concrete wall maxed out at 20' tall, need about 50'.  Hmmm.

BOB!!! Wow! I've never seen your layout look so utterly good!!! You took the words right out of my mouth about Loui's Pizza. It is much better than Buddy's and is closer to us.

I am so looking forward to seeing the layout in person Sunday evening! The pictures are just out of sight. Joey UBoats was right when he said it could be a cover picture. I've got a feeling when it's close to being finished (I know, layouts are NEVER finished) that you'll probably be a featured article in one of the mags...What a great job. John needs to be abused by we hornists for photoshopping that hole in the trailer area of your layout...Just like a slush pump player, eh?

If you look closely, that's not just any hole, it is the Sarlacc pit from Return of the Jedi!

Hey...the trombone doesn't need special "compensating" anything to play in tune...just sayin'   
But dare I say we are on the same side. You guys aren't low brass, but I'd put the horn #2 on my list of favorite homogeneous ensembles. I rank horn choirs above tuba/euph choirs.

But on an interesting side note, I think the bass trombone is one of the few instruments that is actually still evolving. We get new valve tech every few years. First rotors, then axial flow. Now we got all kinds. Started with OE Thayer, and arguably refined by Rene Haggman.

I really got to be careful. Have to remember this is a train forum layout thread...

I went back, caught the Jabba reference...Now I get why the hole was photoshopped...good one. I volunteer to scratch build the barge to float over the place...The blind Han Solo and the wookie will be fun to build in N scale...Maybe I'll use Leonard's Star Wars Themed "Brewbacca's" reference from "The Big Bang Theory" last night when I build it, but a model Starbucks store would be out of the time era...

I think I found the right stuff to make a decent looking redbud tree in bloom.



I think I have to cut off the little seed pods thingees on the supertrees, so the blossoms are a bit lighter looking.  The colors seem to be correct in person, a bit washed out in the photos.

Thanks.  I tried making one this morning, clipping the ends of the STs, little seed pods, but it didn't make an appreciable difference in appearance, let alone the time and eye strain doing it.

I forgot to mention what I used for the redbud blossoms: colored sand.  I was in the local dimestore (yes, it really is one of the last dimestores in existence) walking around looking for things that could be used to grind up for scenic materials, and spied a sand art kit in the toy section.  It had two shades of obnoxious looking pink in it, so I knew that one of them should work for this project.  Four bucks well spent.

I placed a couple of redbuds into the forest on the back of the layout.  (white dogwood on the right)



Still need to add more understory trees.

And some saplings.  Have you tried making a magnolia yet?  Big vertical pink buds the size of a bird on the end of each branch. 

By the way, I never thanked you for experimenting on the cat tails.

You're welcome.  I enjoy trying to figure out how to make something like that, especially since I've never seen anyone else make them before.  Where no model railroader has gone before.

I'm not sure how much super detailing this forest is going to get, since it's only visible if you're standing by the staging tracks. Still have to add in the mountain laurel.

 This is starting to get obsessive, but then again, this is The Railwire.
