Kato Tweets E5 pic. I'm officially concerned.

I'm getting a Life-Like F7 feel with the nose contour.  I'm no expert on the E5 so I'm curious what others might think.  I've also been trying to find pictures that match this angle, but nothing close enough yet.

Jason,

Try comparing it to the nose contour of an E6.  According to the Summer 2012 issue of Classic Trains (with a special section on E units), "Produced exclusively for the Burlington Route, [the E5] was basically an E6 sheathed in stainless steel."  The picture on page 27 of that issue shows CB&Q E5 #9912-A had the slanted nose.  If I had to guess without putting a ruler on it, the model (at that angle in the photo above) looks like it may not be slanted enough, but it's definitely angled more than an F unit.

The one thing that sticks out to me is the sharp angle on the windshields... but that could be lighting/silver paint...

The extant E5 is right down the road from KatoUSA... so hopefully it won't be LL F7 uber-wonkiness

Here's hoping they do the E6, E3 and SBD E4

To me it is a really odd angle to really judge the nose.  Especially when comparing to a prototype photo which are more often than not are taken from the ground, or from a much farther distance if above.  I would not judge it just from that picture.

I will buy as many different road numbers as Kato will sell!  I like it.

The tooling looks awesome, though.  Grills are incredible. :tommann:

Good catch Richie.  I'll have to look closer on a computer screen later.

That's a good angle Richie.

Concern level to blue.  Looking forward to more pics from Kato.

There is a live E5 within an hour of Kato's Illinois office - if they don't get this one right, the villagers will be out with pitchforks and torches...

It's hard to see with the glare but I don't think the nose is sharp enough. The nose should slope more and the hood in front of the windshield should be shorter. Again, it may just be a really bad angle but I don't think it looks quite right.
