Bachmann Alco S-4 and 2-6-0

I also noticed a laird style slide and modern cylinders.  To me that's a boon for kitbashers, although the ten wheeler parts are still not available online.

My understanding is that Bachmann has placed the DCC decoder in the tender of the steam locomotives.
It requires more skill than I have to change tenders.  I hired some one to make the change for me with the 4-6-0.  [I used the USRA short B'mann tender. That was before I started doing DCC, so lost the DCC of my 4-6-0.]

...as can I and with Atlas not having anything but a rendering, it's too early to start the "Atlas vs Bachmann" was.....let's just wait and enjoy this new found Alco-gasam!

Roger,
 Putting a decoder in your 4-6-0 is as simple as removing some jumpers and soldering in the new decoder. It should be a 10-15 minute install. I am pretty sure the stock lightboard is still in the shorty tender so it will be easy to stick a decoder in it.

I have a feeling that the 2-6-0 will no longer have the option of breaking the decoder off of the light board to go to pure DC. It will probably require some major rewiring to go to pure DC.

  Tony, small world?  You did the tender exchange for me.  This was before I started doing DCC and so I told you to leave it DC.  Now I have my regrets.

Why must there even be a verus since one is a S2 and the other a S4? For years we wanted a improved Alco now we have two.

Atlas could have easy spent the tooling dollars upgrading their HO Alcos instead of answering our request.Bachmann could just as easy tooled a DCC equipped Hi Rail Signal maintainers truck instead of a  N Scale Alco S4.

And for thanks some are finding fault.

As far as that P&LE S2 surely you guys can strip and paint the darn thing-oh,that's right trashing a long requested model is better.

2-4" to wide? LOL! You can even see 2-4"  in  N Scale!

2" to 4" would not bother me. But as an example, I can easily see that Kato EMD hoods are too wide (SD40/45, SD40-2).

But I agree that folks should not be splitting hairs over as yet unseen models.

Roger my point was that the new loco already has a decoder and it may that all you have to do is swap shells with the one below.

It's an S4. I'm not bashing a long requested model. I'd have to see it in person before that would start. I'm bashing the fantasy paint job.

Painting large billboard sized letters down the side of a model that never appeared on the prototype is Bachmanns way of saying "hey we didn't even try"

I'd rather have a S2 anyways S4's are modern diesels to me
