Sorry, I have been distracted lately by another train project. Outdoors, even in the heat & humidity, the N scale modeling does not stop.

Since I have not posted for a while, here is another view of one of my pastures.

For a while, I was not sure the backdrop painting would work here. I was trying to give the illusion of distant hills rising in the distance. I have been acused of modeling only flat terrain.

In my mind, it works. In reality...

it works perfectly. i didnt even notice it until it was mentioned. the horses draw the eye, then the truck. the point of a backdrop is that it be enough that the eye isn't drawn by a LACK of a backdrop.....

IMO, I think it would work better if you flipped the two colors so that the lighter of the two were in the further background and the darker one closer to the modeling.
Go out for a drive on a sunny afternoon and see if that is how it appears to you.

Is this the intended look?

If so, I think it comes across pretty well, though a bit more variation in the tree canopy thickness might do nicely.

Ah, OK.  That makes sense.

I think it looks great!  You can recreate the wildflowers (I used yellow and white) by hitting spots of grass with cheap hairspray and sprinkling some Woodland Scenics Flowers in the area.  Just a few patches here and there make for a nice effect.

Dry brush tube acrylic onto the "grass".

That is red acrylic on faux fur bushes
