Weekend Update 11/13/11

So this is my project for the weekend, I call it "Project: Hot Mess" because thats how it turned out! 



Basicly, I wanted to see if I could make a curved turn out out of Unitrak, well I did it, it works, it's ugly, and it don't like anything steam related, Only 4 axel diesels will go though it without derailing. and Freight. I suspect that the inside radi is too tight. I wasn't expecting it to work, it was mostly an experiment, but now that it did work, I might revise the plan a little and make one out of 2 of the same radi corners. Ultimatly, I would like to have 2 of them to make a passing siding....

I handlaid code 40 in the 90's, but when I came back after a break,  it was to straight Unitrak. I've got a place on my current layout that just screams for one of these.

As soon as I get some time, I'm going to give it a try.

Went to San Diego to see kids and grand kids. We took tons of pictures
at The San Diego Model Railroad Museum. My grand son loved it.

Finally got these three CN eight hatch reefers done for a fellow forum member mec_fan. Well almost done. I still need to put some different trucks under them and body mount the couplers but for now they will roll on until then.

I made a couple of changes to them. I drilled a hole to mount a Micro Trains brake wheel and then I modified the body cavity to accept the Micro Trains stirrups. I think they look better than the ones that came with it.

Nice work on the GHQ cars Jon. I've built 6 and like the mods you made... you can surgically alter one to make a very passable CPR reefer as well....

San Diego Model Railroad Museum - Mostly Tehachapi layout, it's so
hard to take pictures with digital cameras there. my daughter took
some great ones with a pricey Cannon w/ zoom.

Nothing exciting. Work had me putting in some long hours leaving no time for working in ACME Labs. About the only thing done was begining the rewire and reassembly of the replaced chassis from last week.

No work from me this week. All I did was screw up Eric's yard for the last time this season, and start work on the website for the Susquehanna Limited, the CRHS's next excursion (of note to the MD a$$hat brigade, it's departing from DC Union station this time, you're all obligated to buy tickets, even if you don't want to ride it ).

However, Carl, choochin3, has been busy and wanted me to post a photo of his first custom paint job, a PC SW1200:

Yep. It's going to be Saturday June 16th.

It'll be leaving Washington Union station, heading up to Perryville, going up the Port Road, across Shocks Mill, through Enola, over Rockville, through Harrisburg, down the Roy branch, and back down the Port Road.

Of course, this is all subject to change.

Other than the aforementioned rivet week from hell I did manage to finish the annual n scale train Christmas present for Andrew; the best buddy of my 8 year old son who I built the "Andrew Junction" Sub for.....

Looks like the park in Andrew Junction is getting a retired Royal Canadian Air Force P51 D for a pedestal memorial. The RCAF flew the D's until the late 50's in Auxiliary Squadrons, two of which were in British Columbia (City of Vancouver and City of New Westminster Squadrons) so the logic holds....ok, a little bit....

Andrew's a speed freak; if it goes fast with a motor he's in so a train car with a 400 mph piston driven engine aircraft will be right on the mark !
