Why does there need to be a  topic. You have 144sqin, so use it the way you want it.
I WANNA SEE THE BOAT MOVIE!

There doesn't have to be a topic, but it adds to the interest to see how different people model, say 'urban trackage' or whatever. What does everyone else think? Common theme or not?

I think if it is going to be a challenge there needs to be a theme, only for the sense of comparing apples to apples, type of thing.  Especially if this is a once or twice a year challenge for people to participate in.  If people choose to do it again in the future it should be a different theme, for example that new building thats being released.  I think it will be interesting to see all the different ways people will go about modeling the said theme and it might force individuals to try something new and help us to expand our skills.

Oh, and the urban trackage sounds good too.

It should be fun, and I'm looking forward to it.

So this brings up an interesting question - should the challenge be focused on the setting/scenery, or should it be focused on the railroad action, regardless of location?  I'm thinking along the line of the many pages at Carl Arendt's site that focused on a topic - tramways, mines, ports, etc regardless of content.  created a ton of diversity.

I think within the idea of the theme, you can focus on whatever you like. That's what makes it interesting. What 'urban trackage means to one, means something different to another. While I might do a weedy siding, Ian might do street running and Ed might do an elevated structure. All urban trackage, but all a slightly different rendition.

So, lets say:

Theme: Urban trackage
Time period: Open
Scale: HO or N
Dimensions: 144 inches square in any configuration
Deadline: Presidents Day Weekend
Winner chosen by non-participants

Sound good?

I think I found our theme:

Wait, I thought the only rules were goign to be N or HO, 144 in or less, and the deadline? when did the theme get decided. I have already started planning a logging theme!

We could always go with the theme of prototypically accurate trees.  :D

Then you're careful grace for sure

No theme other than size and deadline would be my preference.
