Hello all , It was time to do another video. I tried to spruce this one up some, so looking for some input.
Just a short update on the completed items lately on the Albuquerque Carnuel & Tijeras.

Awesome layout  :o I also really like the attention to detail on down to the tires on top of the mobile home :D. I'm adding a junkyard and a mobile home park to my layout also.

Nice video Mike...keep 'em coming!

I will confess that I haven't seen all 29 episodes but....have you ever done a "railfanning" video?  Like, as if you are a railfan on your layout shooting video of trains coming through?   Seeing the El Cap train running kinda made me think that would be cool.  Just a thought.  I do appreciate you sharing your progress with us.   8)

Really nice Mike.  Any thoughts on how you might mount the speaker at layout level?  It's a tab big to shove in an instrument shed, but I would guess the sound would be really nice coming form something close to the crossing, not curling up from under the lip of your benchwork.

Thanks Philip , I will put it in an enclosure and mount under the table at the crossing. It could be hidden under some bushes though. That is what I will do with the emitters and detectors.

Thanks , Mike

Mike,

Your link here is broken, but I found video #32 on YouTube.  One suggestion I might add, to save you some work, is to consider some cable clamps like this: http://www.google.com/shopping/suppliers/product/1-4-inch-Cable-Clamp/e27b135095a838a3?ei=mpeeUuCPGo_qqQKTugE&q=cable+clamp&ved=0CDUQ7RswBg.  They come in different sizes, and you can find them at your local hardware store.  Their biggest advantage is that you can install them around the existing wires without cutting your wires.  One screw to secure the cable clamp to the bottom of the joists over your L-girder (after you wrapped it around the wires) should give you plenty of clearance in most places... at least where the shelf will be secured to the bottom of the L-girder.

Keep up the good work.  I'm enjoying following along.

EDIT: Yup, your link above is fixed.

Sounds like an ambitious retrofit.  From getting underneath my layout and lying on my back to install the wiring under the lower deck, I have some idea of what you are in for.  The hardest part was losing the blood supply in my arms and hands as I worked above my head - had to keep taking breaks.

Our PGE-BCR Modellers Group uses Unitrack for our show displays and one thing we have found really helps with longer trains negotiating hte turnbacks is to use easement curves.  You might consider these for the tighter curves under your layout and going into/out of the helix.  Also, with all that hidden trackage, some form of detection system with lights on a panel out front would seem to be in order.  I have been really pleased with my helix occupancy panel so far, and plan to repeat the concept for my hidden staging.

All the best with your renos, and I look forward to future videos,

Tim

Thanks so much Tim. It is too late on the easements but I do know it would help. I will likely not run more than about 15 cars at the most. We did use easements at the club though.
Thanks Again , Mike
