Two hot new product announcements not listed by MR - the MILW bunk coaches from Fox Valley Models (the PGE had some of those!) and the 100-Ton 4000 cu ft rotary gondola from North American Railcar Corp. which is a highly significant release for Canadian modellers.

Also not featured here is an ACF 36'6" 10K gal. single dome tank car by Bachmann (reported on the Atlas site) From what I can tell from the blurry photo, it looks nice. Looks like Bachmann's trying to compete in the hobby's fastest growing market segment.

Besides the 2-10-2, the doodlebugs are back w/DCC and a trailer. Also a 40' AAR box.

Someone needs to tell Harry to quit focusing on the signs. 

I'm stunned by the Bachmann announcements.  If that's a riveted 10,000 gallon tank like it appears...yummy.  And the 40' AAR looks really nice too.

Last year Bachmann announced the RS-3 in HO and that found it's way to N. This year Bachmann announced an S4 in HO. Hm?

The 2-10-2's have at least 2 new unique tenders behind them plus an oil bunker in the long USRA.

The doodlebug trailer coaches are new, wonder if they are part of something else coming.

Wholly crap! Thank tank car, a new AAR box car & outside braced contemporary box car (both with sliding doors!), and a 2-10-2 in N! Bachmann's a machine! And if you look @ DSC_5701.JPG, the Alco S unit behind the Schnabel car's left end almost looks N scale; I nearly wet my pants.

I'm happy to have another ALCo switcher in HO (and it's dimensions look much better than that of the RS-3). Hopefully at Springfield we'll see the 1:160 version! Only 6 more months.

I'm happy to have another ALCo switcher in HO (and it's dimensions look much better than that of the RS-3). Hopefully at Springfield we'll see the 1:160 version! Only 6 more months.

They're welcome to introduce the FA2s as well (and an Alco S2), considering how often Walthers doesn't. Although I'm a little concerned by the "Erie & Lackawanna".

So what's wrong with the RS3 that you can see from the photos?

RS3 and NE caboose in WM Speedlettering.  Someone get a spatula, my head just exploded.  My only request is that they use a decoder that doesn't suck or that can at least be easily replaced.

And from the looks of the caboose test shot, it's worth the price even if it comes in an old box!  And are those body mounted couplers I see?

The trailer coach on the doodlebug looks interesting.  Looks like it will be sold only in the set.  I wonder how difficult it will be to get the coach separately from Bachmann?  I could use a few of those for New Haven commuter service.

BTW, nice crisp hi-rez photos if you open the Bachmann PDF announcement and magnify the pages.  The trailer coaches have free-standing grab irons and roof vents.  The tank looks like a more prototypical upgrade of the MTL car, and has body-mounted couplers.  Among the first releases are former early MTL schemes Texaco and Phillips 66.

Nice initial schemes on the NE as well, including RDG green/cream and WM speed lettering.

They are releasing the AAR box car in New Haven black, which is prototypical for the model.  I'm very interested.  They are doing BAR State of Maine also but we'll see how the paint separations look.  Too bad they only release one road number per scheme, but things definitely have gotten interesting in Philadelphia.
