No, it's not your monitor...  Those are older shots when I was having trouble with Picasa and iPhoto not playing nice with each other.  That and the lighting.

I found painting the Penn Central green difficult; the paint seemed to change hue while I was airbrushing, even though I used the same pot of paint; and painted the PC cars at the same time. (The NYC car was painted NYC Jade green) Not knowing much about the Penn Central; I leave the colour match judgement to the audience.....weathering (which isn't a stretch for PC from what I saw) helps hide whatever drift there was.....
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Someone should mention to maintenance that they have a car without trucks and that it probably will go bad order........ ::)

Nice work!

Damn, that's a bad neighborhood to have your trucks stolen!

Not much here.

I assembled another of my Kadee kit cars - one more left to go!

I have a beat Red Caboose N&W X29 that I got on the cheap as a "fixer upper". I almost was gonna unload it but then I realized that hell would probably open a soft serve before RC would run N&W again. It was kind of beat - a "dent" on one corner likely from being dropped, missing brake wheel, and cracked stirrup on one end. I removed the "seen better days" Kadee Microtrains trucks that one of the PO's installed - unfortunately both kinpins snapped off. ::) I tried to glue the cracked stirrup but that ended up in failure. So I decided to glue a brass stirrup in so I wend ahead and removed what was left of the stirrup. I can't tell from looking at the model how the brake wheel was attached ... need to find a pic of an intact model. This one goes back on the backburner:

I've been weeding out some of my older stuff that has been rendered obsolete by N scale progress. Here's a foob I did up for N&W using the lousy NE Decal set. Also restored to Rapido couplers in anticipation of sale. There are much better foobs out there now! ;D

This is a hopper I did up for NKP back in the 70s using Walthers decals (yes, Walthers used to make decals!). A bit of a foob, 4 bays vs 3 on the prototype, which I lettered based on a photo I took. The model has been fitted with Accumates in advance of sale. The nail in the coffin for this is the coming Bluford NKP'ers!

This ends my blast from the past. One of these days I'll get around to some more recent stuff.

This week I took a break from the mysteries of learning JMRI/Panelpro (for my implementation of Dispatcher-controlled Train order signals) and roughed in the final scenery profiles on the second level deck.

Next week it will be back to the Train order panels and computer work and preparing for an op session on the 14th.

I didn't have much time this week, but I played around with making windows using the Silhouette cutter. I took Frog tape (a fancy masking tape from Home Depot) and applied it to clear styrene using a putty knife to make sure I got good contact. I ran the taped styrene through the cutter, and then removed the tape for the frames and mullions. The thin mullions are about 2.5 N scale inches and all but two came off clean (but I was able to get them off with no problem). I then sprayed the styrene, waited for it to dry and removed the masking tape over the clear panes. A bit of the paint made it through the tape as I was using a solvent paint instead of a water based as recommended for the tape, but I am pleased with the results. Sorry for the poor photos but it was a bit hard to photograph with my phone (and my good camera is dead). This looks like a good, easy and cheap way to make customized windows.

Best wishes, Dave

If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Had an Ops Session this weekend with 14 participants. Went pretty well. We completed the schedule although everyone was pretty tired at the end. I even got to run a couple of trains.

I got benchwork back-up connecting the peninsula with the wall mounted benchwork and have all the wood cut to get the helix base constructed. Hopefully I can do that this week,

Picked up parts for the second GPW, went to my brothers baby shower and picked up the Amtrash/Penn Central set. Cleaned off the layout so I could continue working on scenery.

Sister's wedding was this weekend, which meant I missed time with my MiNi boys at High Wheeler, but it was a great day indeed.  The whole thing started with my sister taking a spill down some icy stairs and scraping her leg up pretty good.  Thank god the dress was unharmed!  The topper made it's debut, and I had numerous people asking if I could make one for them, including the DJ.

All in all a great weekend, even if it wasn't running trains.  And now I can get back to some much need N projects.
