Finished my billboard ads.  The Spotoil is good enough until something else comes along.

I also found a shot of the backside of the same type of billboards.

Looks like all metal design, but many of the details are very fuzzy still.

When Atlas first announced thier rebuilt boxcar, I immediately made up a drawing for a FDDM&S decal.  Of course now I've procrastinated long enough to see Atlas produce this model, only to also have learned that it's not a match for the FDDM&S car (RI either if anyone cares).

So even though it was painted, off came the roof.

This project has shown me that N scale wood running boards don't match the drawings (at least not the ones I have).  For some reason the boards that go to the edge of the car are too narrow.  What's really strange is that the plastic on the IM piece is wide enough, but they don't extend the boards to the edge.  The MTL is just too narrow, but will probably be what I use.  FWIW, the drawings give a width of 2' 5" and the MTL and IMR boards are 25".  Coincidence?

This post brought to you by compatibility mode.  :)

edit:  I also got  an SD-7 drive from Toy Train Heaven (Bowser) on one of thier $30 deals, so if anyone need a Conrail SD-7 shell #6999, let me know.

Love the bridges this week! David, that is a great looking bridge for your first attempt (but somehow I am not surprised) and that Peace River Bridge is epic. The original perspective looked pretty good, but I agree that the new look is better. Most people would have settled for good enough.

Best wishes, Dave

I can't post here due to scrolling issues... it's not allowing me to post past a few lines.

sorry.

Pud, that's almost certainly the page compatibility view issue. Make sure you've tried it in both modes, because the mode setting can be ambiguous.

I'm familiar with compatability mode; tried three diffferent computer in th house, all of which have posted before and all three where I changed the mode "on - off" - still doing it...... :(
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Finally back in the train room for more then ten minutes this week.  Started out by installing the first road segment.  Turns out semi0rural parish roads in Louisiana are not 33 fett wide, so I Have a lot of shoulder on the one side to redo:

Then I started working on a signature piece of non- railroad related real estate:

....or on the Canadian dollar ($1.00 USD = $0.98 Cnd.....).....

This has happened before and it just "goes away....I have checked and re-checked compatability and it doesn't seem to be the issue... also seems to happen more often when I try and add hyperlinks....

or, maybe it's that Canadian time thingy...............bloody hosers............

I've started photography for a layout feature for N Scale Magazine using a halogen lighting rig.  What a difference that makes on depth of focus, by the way!  Obviously since those photos are headed for publication, I can't show them here...  So in the meantime, in the spirit of Puddy's Penn Central fun, here's some of my PC (and patched CR) stuff...

Congratulations! Sure does make a difference, doesn't it? And you can get virtually-guaranteed spot-on white balance with all-tungsten lighting, too.

Pud, just for the heck of it, you ought to try Chrome. Takes about a minute to install, and it's way fast.

I got my Silhouette SD cutter on Thursday, and finally got a chance to start playing with it (and the Silhouette Studio software) this morning:

This is scored in 0.030" styrene, with the scores highlighted with ink and/or pencil to make them more readily visible. The blocks in the wall at the center (which I was easily able to snap out along the score lines) are 1 scale foot high. The sample above it is a similar pattern done using a "rounded rectangle" for each block instead of drawing the wall as a grid.

Just basic stuff, but this may soon enable me to solve a couple of problems with my bridge module...

Maybe it's just my monitor but the color in these pix are off - too much blue me thinks.
