Weekend Update 2/6/11

I have been doing some work myself lately. For some reason I had the idea to extend the second level out over the back half of the staging yard. First pic is how it originally was, next couple are the addition made in the last 2 weeks. Last few are of an area I added more trees and a farm house to.

Went to the trainshow picked up a couple N&W cabeese, a slew of VW Bugs/Buses, renewed my membership to the WM Histerical Society and I picked up the latest WM book.

I've tried the iPhone app on my layout. It takes a little getting used to, but it's a good little app. My main beef with it is that if the phone shuts off, it sends out a command to stop the train. I get why it does that, but it's a pain if you're trying to conserve battery power.

You can disable that in the preferences.

I'm still having trouble getting any JMRI throttle input to work though, hopefully I'll get that rectified this week.

All I did this weekend was order some NWSL wheelsets  for some switchers, figured I would swap them out when I did a dcc install.

Also did  more adjustment on some of my cars. Can't weather anything because I don't have a spray booth, the weather has sucked for doing it outside, and I have a gas water heater with an open pilot flame in the workshop. (is there any danger in spraying in a room with that?)

DON'T DO IT WITHOUT PROPER VENTILATION.  We recently had an outbuilding here in Cecil County, Maryland that burned to the ground, because paint fumes got into the heating plant.

Hey Dave,

I love it, but I have one suggestion that may make it even more realistic.  Do you think you can get in there over the road between the tracks and the town and add some foliage to create somewhat of a canopy over the road?  Not so much as a tunnel, but perhaps to make it look less "pruned."  Think of it as the trees growing towards the sunlight.

Ahahah. Dave just mentioned the same thing I was thinking as I was looking at the photo, well, kinda. I think you really want to hide the town from that side via the trees, at least from that photo angle. I feel like it's really hurting the "Spruce Creek" aspect of it, seeing the corner of the building there.

Couple caboose weathering projects.First one is a Con-Cor Pennsy unit,future changes will be body mount couplers and metal wheel sets.



This one is a Walthers Corail unit.It too will get metal wheel sets.



End view of the two boose's These are for my Grande Valley Railway's locals so they ain't exactly fancy.



Do not understand why the Con-Cor car looks crooked since it doesn't in person.
