That's more like it!

did you seriously doubt me?  i'm totally digging this - it's actually not a WM layout, it's a layout of what i missed seeing by a few years as a kid!  i know all these places, just as vacant cinder roads and parking lots where trains used to run

No, I didn't doubt you. To quote,

here's a shot looking from the end of the left lobe

the thru girder bridge on the branch is visible in the distance as is the other end of the tunnel.

There's an interesting effect going on here. The plan makes it appear more congested-looking than it does in real life. I think you'll have a lot of nice opportunities for some scenic splendor.

the lobe is 6 inches longer than on the plan.  i also have 6 more inches from the backwall and the edge of the layout at the top of the U.  that really helps.

i'm leaving room for the ridge and creek along the branch.

So, is the main, as it passes through the tunnel and arcs to the right toward the yard, dropping down to the level of the B&O line? In other words, is the main yard going to sit at the same height as the B&O line? Or is the B&O line going to rise up? I ask because, if the main yard is down on the level of the B&O line, then it'll be a hairy grade to rise up through the staging yards to get up to the top level...

the B&O line will be at zero, the yard at 2", the bridge at 4", and the top level at 6".  the bridge level is not at the correct height compared to the B&O.  i ran out of things to hold up the mock ups.  the zero point will get a layer of pink foam.  the yard is on a bed of homasote.  i'm pretty comfortable with the transitions.

Nice!  You've got a lot of bridges to build!

i know a guy....

i have to do a 40' and 80' girder, the thru truss, and then probably two more 40's and another 80' for the curved creek and B&O crossing.  i have no plans for any other bridges.

the killer will be the supports - not sure how i'm going to do those (poured anchor cement or what).

Admitting you have a problem is the first step, after all!  Seriously, it looks like you have made good progress - you may actually pass me in a day or two at this pace . . .
