More new fall goodies from the new guys. Steve and Craig have two new hoppers coming in the spring. They are doing two 70 Ton Hoppers, an offset side and a 14 panel, both 3 Bays. They are different cars from the Athearn ex-MDC's. The details will include fully dimensional brake cylinder, rod and lever assembly. Seperate hopper door castings and body mounted couplers.

The first batch roads will be;
SP Offset side (12 numbers)
NYC 14 Panel (20 Numbers)
ACL Offset side (6 Numbers)
B&O Offset side (20 Numbers)
BN 14 Panel (20 Numbers)
BAR Offset side (3 numbers)

Second Batch
C&O Chessie Offset (12 Numbers)
CNW Offset (12 Numbers)
D&RGW 14 Panel (20 Numbers)
C of G Offset (6 Pack)
CP Offset (10 pack)
NYC Offset (12 Pack)
WRA 14 Panle (6 Pack)

Check out all the details on the website
http://www.bluford-shops.com/bluford_1025_002.htm

After the 86' Boxcar, expect an even better effort now. Way ta' go guys. It's gonna be an interesting fall season I believe!

diecast slope sheet-hopper bay-center sill assembly; injection molded plastic sides, ends, and hopper doors; fully molded brake tank, valve and air lines; slope sheet braces; separately molded vertical brake rod and lever assembly (a first on an N scale open hopper!); body mounted brake hose detail; coal load; body mounted magnetically operating couplers; close coupling; friction bearing or roller bearing trucks as appropriate for each road name.

Very Cool. 8)

The 14 panel sorta resembles some that Clinchfield and L&N used, got look into that.

Looks promising for CLINCHFIELD http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/clin/crr54656ajs.jpg  ;D

The MSRP is quite reasonable given the level of features IMHO.

Very nice!  I've always wondered why MDC did the offset side car they did and not this one.  It's much more common.

They got the blurb wrong on the Chessie cars, btw.  The car they're making is an H-71 car that C&O bought in 1986 from Helm.  They were former EL cars.  Must have looked at the wrong paragraph in the color guide as the car they're talking about is pictured right above the car they're making.

I recall seeing a W of A car within the last several years that was still in good shape, so these are good for most of the CSX days.

Is this yet another opportunity not to get undecorated models or kits?

Simply awesome.

The Jim Rogers article on these cars in the Sept 91 issue of MRG attributes them to P&LE via Helm but as you've suggested the Chessie color guide shows this particular scheme as ex-EL cars so you are probably correct.

Some Nice paint schemes in that anouncement. More open hoppers, The paint schemes interest me, more than another open hopper car .......

However - I was hoping that we would see a modern woodchip car soon !!

It's awesome seeing more stuff coming out.

I think, at some point, I'm probably going to need some Chessie hoppers, and more options are great.

Neat!  Maybe they will tackle the 90/100T 3Bay next since the Atlas is kind of chunky and the MTL is rarely offered.

I will have to do some research, but these should be pretty close to Conrail HE7A's nee Erie Lackawanna 32000 series cars and Penn Central H37G's.  These will look great in a coal train mixed in with the 100 ton car of your choosing (MTL, Atlas or LL).  How about a 12 panel version of this car Craig?  That would be a Pennsy H39, but it was developed in conjunction with the C&O, so they had them also.  Great choice.

I'll have to get a WRofA or two simply because noone has ever done anything in that or A&WP in N scale before!! I couldn't believe it when I saw it. Central of Georgia will probably be more popular than ACL in our neck of the woods. I know a few people interested in anything CofG
