Outstanding choice.  The NYC and B&O cars work for me in the 1950s NH era, and the eventual EL and CR in a future batch will be added to my 1980s CR fleet.

With the exception of the ExactRail PS4000 and SP gondola, this is the latest in a series of new tooling to feature body-mounted couplers.  Nice to see this is becoming the rule rather than the exception.

How about a 12 panel version of this car Craig?  That would be a Pennsy H39, but it was developed in conjunction with the C&O, so they had them also.  Great choice.

This car was jointly developed by PRR/C&O/N&W. N&W built one prototype:

It lasted until 1989 IIRC.

N&W had a more efficient design well under development at this point, so N&W decided not to produce any more.

PRR was gung ho for it though, and built 10,000 plus another 5,000 or so IIRC.

C&O built 500 me thinks.

The first decorated as a Western Raiwlay of Alabama. Ya' might get strung up for saying the Atlas car wasa WRofA sown in these parts Lou!  ;D

Most down in this area do not consider the SCL/FLS scheme as one of the predecerssor roads. BUT they would consider a boxcar in the FLS scheme a find.

Taking a gander looks like the top-ends are a tad shallow/short but since I can't/don't want the Atlas 70/100T cars these would work out fine.

When I did my car comparisons I counted the ends too. I'm not a rivet counter when it comes to cars I go for the 30K ft level. You cant get the Atlas 90/100T cars in the WM schemes anymore unless you want to pay twice the car value once you add shipping. Not to mention it's ~30 odd years old tooling. The Bluford cars are close enough (just like the MDC cars) for Gov't work and if anything like their 86ft cars, IMHO worth the price and should have decent detail (and actually a smidge of a chance of being done). The only stand in that comes close to the car in Lee's photo (in todays tooling) would be the MT car, but I'd be a cold day in hell before we see it in both Grey and Tuscan Oxide Red (I've emailed their suggest-a-car for a two pack long ago when the car was first released).

Aye, the Atlas and MT 100T cars are based on the same 1963 prototype.

The Roundhouse 70 tonner is actually the closest one that has been announced or done so far EDIT: I learned today on Railwire that WM did have 14 panel hopps in the 80XXX series, which should be pretty dang close to the Blufes!as far as WM 70 tonners go:

It has the right number of panels. Unfortunately I've only been able to bag two examples over the years. Perhaps a lobby effort with Athearn would have some success.

And they don't paint the inside red... (I did that with my late, lamented Walmart Oxide Red primer... :'(
