We'll all see what they come up with in N-scale. Might be great, might not, but maybe something new. I didn't see anything at the shop Thurs and Fri from them in the mail...maybe in the next two weeks we'll get "pre-order" sheets, or maybe they are going to sell direct. They have a big bunch of prototypes in N that have never been done, and more that have been done poorly. I'm willing to see what they plan on doing before griping about it.

My shot in the dark guess: ER will announce the same models in N. (I hope I'm wrong, and I hope they don't use McHenry in N).

Ohhhh Brother! ::)

March 1st. Should be a fun day.

You know we've gotten a bunch of new players in the market over the last couple of years. a sure sign of a growing market. Invariably however we will see some consolidation in the market for even with growth comes survival of the fittest.

Only if you're the one betting on it...

Just got my April MR today and there is a full-page ad from ExactRail featuring their upcoming N releases:  Vert-a-Pac, PC&F Hy-cube and... Trinity 5161 covered hopper.  Huh?  The IM 5161 is one of the best cars made in N scale today. Why are they reproducing that?  (The pictures look nice, but no better than IM's.)  Oh well.

No mention of McHenry's, and it's hard to tell from the pictures.

Could it be a 12 panel instead of the 10 panel that IM did?

Could be -- it's not specified.  Even so...

You've got to be kidding??  With all the interest in PCF boxcars (like Athearn) does, they are doing another trinity hopper???

Why not go for broke and do an SP 50 ton Bay Window Caboose???

This appears to be the CP car that they have advertised.  I don't know what it is.

According to a post on the MFCL Yahoo Group, Exactrail is advertising in MR that their N scale offerings will be the Vert-a-pacs, the 6033 hy-cubes, and Trinity 5161 hoppers...

Got my copy of the April Model Railroader today...Exactrail ad has Trinity 5161's in 3-packs, PC&F 6033 Hi-Cubes, and Vert-A_Pac's.  Three different 3-packs per road name for the 5161's (6 for BNSF Swoosh), and 3 road numbers per road name for each of the other models.

In fairness to Athearn and MTL.... at least they were developed separately and there had been public demand for them. Can't say I've heard anyone wish for another 5161....

But I've stopped trying to work out the decision making process of model train manufacturers....
(maybe I'll believe it if I keep telling myself that!)
