Do the math and you'd get a heck no and a couple of uh-uhs on that...

Going to 28" wheels would net you 2.5 scale inches lower... or .015625"... which is .396875mm... or for the rounders... less than half a millimeter.

Skibbes car looks to be at least 2mm lower... if not more... which would be almost five times lower...

As an aside, while the new Acumates on the 100T trucks are completely underslung, the original Accumate were already underslung as well (i.e, the centerline of the coupler was higher than the centerline of the draft gear... note the one on the IC car in Skibbe's post)... so the height difference is actually smaller than one would think.  The biggest area of improvement on the new trucks was the lowering and shortening of the coupler box.

Ok, had to measure, and you can check vs prototype height now too.

Stock car (IC) is 1.452" from top of rail
Modified car (MILW) is 1.393"

So subtract the 2.5 scale inches after the wheels go on and I'm around 1.378"?

28" wheels alone also won't get your sideframes in correct relationship to the sill as you're not changing the bolster height.

The cars appear to be "unstepped on."  Mounting the 2004 coupler "higher" will be interesting once 28" wheels are installed.

I'll probably cut a notch in the floor and back it with styrene, like the truck cut out.  The draft gear should be a good 1/16" higher anyway, maybe I can move to a 1025 since the 2004 underslung knuckle is giant.

I've had pretty decent luck installing lidless pockets to raise the coupler a few thousandths. It takes a small drill hole and a small relief area in the carbody to keep the coupler operational.

I was thinking about biting the bullet and putting together a $50 order, then selling off the "extras" on flEbay.

A quick search on ebay came up empty though ... (thinking someone else would'a beat me to it)

It's beautiful that we have to do these mods to make it ready to roll ... :)
