MTL 89' Flatcar Painted TTX

I was looking at N Scale Supply's web site, and I see they have Micro Trains' February releases posted.  MTL is releasing an 89' flatcar painted for TTX with a Transamerica trailer.  It looks like MTL listened to the masses and brought out a winner.  These won't last long.  This car is easily back dated to Trailer Train by slapping a "Trailer Train" decal over the TTX logo.  Good stuff.

What a sad state of N scale affairs when everyone gets so excited about a Pullman flush deck.  Maybe the $40 price tag will allow one of the other 10,000 trailer flats to get produced by someone. 

Single most overrated N scale car ever.  But kudos to MT for finally cashing in.

I wish they would do something for those of us with more time than money.  I picked up the 3-pack kit back in the first run for about $25.  It seems to me the single built up car also carried an MSRP around $25, and if I'm not mistaken, also included a trailer.  I don't have $30 to spend on a single car, and the nature of intermodal trains doesn't lend itself to single car purchases...  If ever there was a car that cried out for a runner pack or better yet, a bulk pack kit, it's this one.  (or any 89' pig flat).

So while I'm glad they finally dusted off this tooling and paint scheme, I wish they'd make them a little easier to obtain in quantity.

What MT really needs to do is a more modern TOFC with the hitches at either end instead of the circus arrangement. I'm guessing that the new releases are priced for the collector, NOT the runner. I generally tend not to buy their cars as I once did, simply because they don't offer very much that appeals to me.

C'mon guys, MTL employs lots of American workers and keeps their families fed.  Also, based on the estimates over at Trainboard for how many pad printing hits it takes to paint a dome roof, I can only assume that each individual letter on these flats is 2 hits on the pad printer.  That's a lot of labor and time, plus the cost of materials, healthcare, taxes to support the economic stimulus package to pay for abortions in foreign countries, etc. 

$40 is a bargain to support all of that.

For the time being I'll stick with N Scale Kits 89 footers. I resent having to buy a trailer (MT's recent trend is to force us to buy their loads).

Since a trailer retails for $18.50 itself, if it didn't come with the trailer it would bring down the $40 price point for the flat a notch or two.

For the bargain hunters: N Scale Supply picked up a bunch of undec MT flats a month or two ago.  They're still listing them for $16.32 ea:

I picked up 4 last month and thus have no need for this new release.  But I'm glad MT finally did cash in.
