Dash8-40C's have landed

Got one of mine today. Feel sorry for the B-man, this put theres to pasture.

I got a call from a customer today who received his 8-40C's yesterday. He said " I got the 8-40C's thanks, but I have to tell you I prefer the Bachmann's better." After a brief moment of puzzled silence on my end he started laughing.

I'm on my way to Montana to kick his a$$.

Now THAT's funny right there, I don't care who you are.

Takes the same decoder as the GP38, 38-2, 40, 40-2, SD35, B-7 and B-8, it also uses the clips on the light board as the GP15. I put a Digitrak DN163A0 decoder in mine. Only complain that I have is that it had to much lube around the bearing blocks which I wipe off. She runs like the average Atlas engine, smooth and quiet.

I tested one of the truck on one of my Kato C30-7 and it fits but they show some daylight under them were the Kato truck does not. I did not run it but they do look better than the old Kato truck.

If the DN163A0 fits, I assume TCS' equivalent AMD4 will also fit.

And I'll get to work on the C30-7 shells tomorrow evening.  Be nice to finally get those done.  Now if only I had something to run them on.

Hyperion, so you are just wanting the complete mechanism for your Kato shells, or just the trucks for the Kato mech?  I'm looking for someone that needs the mech only and is willing to sell/trade the D8-40C decorated shells (NS and/or CNW from the first run) if you are interested.  See http://www.trainboard.com/trainstore/showproduct.php?product=1304&cat=500 for more info.

That's great that the Digitrax "AO's" will fit. I've got two sitting here, and one 8-40C coming my way.

These look great! Just for fun in a couple days I'll post some pix of my $25 Bachmann NS 8-40C for comparison and ridicule. ;D

I got down to the club tonight and programmed my 2 CSX C40-8 and I like them even more now. They are super smooth, great low speed control and not an anemic puller at all. I had the pair pulling 47 cars around the complete layout many times with no hesitation or slipping.

I just ordered the three Union Pacific units from MB Klein.  Should be here before next weekend.  Now, if I just had a layout to run them on!

Has anyone heard of any problem with trucks. 2 of the 4 I received had problems with the trucks/gears. Atlas has already replaced one and I have to send the second one back on an RA.

The first one I opened went about 3" and locked up. I noticed that the top gear would pop sideways in the uprights. I could pop it back in, but when you rolled it, it would bind up at one spot. Same with the other unit.
