I've got a line on a NS unit, and if it comes together, I do want to try one out myself.

I didn't preorder these because of my doubts and dislikings of the sd50/60's trucks, but it's been confirmed that those assemblies aren't being used.

They look beautiful, and I will give one a chance. Hopefully, I will become an addict, and have to work a second job to get all that I would want ;D

I know people have had these for a grand total of about 48 hours at best, but as anyone by chance happened to see if the trucks will mate up with the Kato C30-7 mechanisms?

I've got 3 C30-7s with everything minus the trucks from back when Kato did that super clearance of them for dirt-cheap.  Been waiting for some trucks and rumor was that these would work.  I've got a couple of these coming Friday, but I might actually get to work decorating some shells if I think I can actually get some trucks under those C30s.

Did Conrail add the upside down L shaped grabs on the nose at their shops or did they come from GE like that?

Does anyone know which decoder fits in these?  Either NCE or Digitrax is fine with me, just don't know which version.

Not so much for the Conrail versions as they seem to be a quick seller.

They have an NCE decoder already if you ordered a decoder equipped one...

Those Conrail pics look great, and I'm not even a Conrail fan.

I went ahead and placed an order for one NS unit. I'll put it one my mainline and see how she performs.

The units Atlas made are in their as-delivered configuration from GE, with the single short grab across the nose. Conrail added the L-shaped grabs when the units were cycled through the shops, probably to receive their ditch lights and Quality paint. This occurred in the early-mid 1990s.

Looks like Atlas did a third CR specific shell but they are not selling an undec of it yet, very cool.
Looking at the frame in John's pictures it looks like Atlas could put working ditchlights on the this loco like the are going to do on the CW.


Got one of mine today. Feel sorry for the B-man, this put theres to pasture.

Takes the same decoder as the GP38, 38-2, 40, 40-2, SD35, B-7 and B-8, it also uses the clips on the light board as the GP15. I put a Digitrak DN163A0 decoder in mine. Only complain that I have is that it had to much lube around the bearing blocks which I wipe off. She runs like the average Atlas engine, smooth and quiet.

I tested one of the truck on one of my Kato C30-7 and it fits but they show some daylight under them were the Kato truck does not. I did not run it but they do look better than the old Kato truck.

If the DN163A0 fits, I assume TCS' equivalent AMD4 will also fit.

And I'll get to work on the C30-7 shells tomorrow evening.  Be nice to finally get those done.  Now if only I had something to run them on.
