You're the only one that sees that. The driver diameter and axle spacing are very, very different.  :

I'm talking about hacking up the sideframes.  I have other ideas to get the actual trucks.  Besides, the leading and trailing (non powered) trucks are the same.

I did not know that they had the same individual truck wheelbase.  The other question is how would you truck mount your couplers as per the prototype?

Holy crap!  I thought I was on the A board for a minute! 

I for one welcome this model and will back it up with a preorder.  MAP be damned.  I've found it offered for $105.00 so far and as the E tailers get on-line with the 'check for our low price in the shopping cart' feature, I'm sure I'll find it for the same or less.

I'm happy that I passed on the Daylight and other western roads that have been offered since the 1st run of the CZ.  I'm not a collector, so I'm looking forward to a passenger consist that looks right to me.  That way my CZ can spend a bunch more well deserved time in the box (I guess that makes me a collector to some extent).

I think it's really cool that Kato is doing the GG1. I hope it sells well though I have no use for one. Some reasons for excitement:

* Finally a up to date N scale GG1 to replace the prehistoric Arnold one!
* Kato makes an Eastern only model!

So if it does well perhaps Kato will expand their North American vision a bit.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Broadway limited.

Don't forget about the Port Road from Perryville to Harrisurg along the scenic banks of the Susquehanna, as well as the old Atglen & Susquehanna that broke off of the normal 4 track mainline between Philly and Lancaster (at Atglen PA) and was mostly single track.

Those are both awfully tempting layout ideas.

Man I remember seeing them in Long Island City as a kid. They were so cool looking.

Last one I saw was a Penn Central re-paint in Newark back in 1995.

Just did some reading . Some shots of them in New Haven in 1964 , but more common after the merge in 1969 .

Some of my first railfanning experiences were down in Arbutus hanging out by the old Knecht Ave. grade crossing.  G's in freight service, and pulling Amtrak trains at speed.  That big single headlight and that throaty horn...  Man what a rush.

And it was always a treat to catch 4935, the one Ross Rowland restored to PRR 5 stripe livery...  Awesome.

Here's a 1950s map showing Pennsy's mainline electrification routes highlighted. The GG1 could be found just about anywhere on the entire system with the exception of the electrified suburban commuter lines which aren't highlighted. 

There's an interesting connection between the GG1 and the soon to be released GM Aeortrain from ConCor.  The Aerotrain ran between NY Penn Station and Pittsburgh but it wasn't allowed to operate into Penn Station.  So westbound a GG1 pulled the Aerotrain, locomotive and all through Penn Station as far as Newark Station where the Aerotrain's diesel engine was started up and the GG1 was taken off.  Eastbound the procedure was reversed and the GG1 pulled the Aerotrain into Penn Station and then through to Sunnyside Yard on Long Island where the train was turned, cleaned,serviced and pulled back through Penn Station by a GG1.
