Would a single GG-1 have pulled the Broadway by itself or would it have been double-headed?

I've seen photos of both 1 and 2 units pulling the Broadway.  Guess it depends on how many cars it's hauling on that day.

Since everyone if talking about the good old GG-1, guess I'll have to repost some GG-1 shot in Protophoto when I get home.

Single. Continuous rating: 4800 HP, maximum HP: ~8000. GG1's originally were not equipped to MU.

Horsepower doesn't really tell you what a locomotive can pull... a better figure to use would be tractive effort... preferably a TE curve.

Kato may not like it, but not because of the price. I'm not sure what BLW is doing doesn't violate MAP since they are showing the price somewhere other than the shopping cart.  BLW could be jeopardizing their dealer status.

What BLW or any dealer sells it for has no bearing on Kato's MAP policly.

MAP is nothing new in the rest of the retail industry and this won't be a big deal in the end.

Back to the GG1 and Broadway Limited...

At what point did PRR switch to Tuscan Red on the Broadway Limited? Were any E units used on the Broadway Limited painted in Brunswick Green?

What I'm wondering is can I run the Kato Broadway Limited passenger set (in Brunswick Green) with diesel power at the head instead of the GG1?

Thanks for the help!

From the beginning of construction in 1934 all of the 139 GG1s were painted Dark Green Locomotive Enamel (a.k.a.  Brunswick Green). West of Harrisburg the Broadway was pulled by double headed K4 steam engines followed by the T1 Duplexes when they became available in 1942.

In 1945 the first passenger diesels arrived on the Pennsy.  They were painted Brunswick Green with five gold pin stripes and were generally assigned to the Harrisburg passenger pool.  By 1949 Electromotive E7s, Baldwin Centipedes and Sharks,  Alco PAs, and even Fairbanks Morse Erie Builts  could be found  heading the Broadway west of Harrisburg.

Starting in 1952 the Pennsy began painting the EMD E7s and E8s, Baldwin Sharks  and Alco PA passenger diesels in Tuscan Red with five gold stripes. By this time the Broadway was headed almost exclusively by EMD E7s and E8s.  The Sharks and PAs were relegated to lessor trains while the Centipedes and Erie Builts  remained painted in green and were downgraded to freight and helper work.  I

n 1952 The PRR purchased sixty new streamlined cars from the Budd Company. The cars were to be used on the New York "Congressional" limiteds and also on "The Senator", a Boston - Washington "limited" that was shared with the New Haven Railroad. These handsome stainless-steel cars with Tuscan red trim were assembled into train sets of coaches, parlor cars, dinning cars and squared-ended observation cars. To pull these "signature" trains the PRR painted six of its GG1 locomotives Tuscan red with the gold pin stripes in 1952. The GG1s selected were numbers 4908 through 4913. Later, four more (numbers 4856, 4857, 4876 and 4929) were given the same Tuscan red livery.

The 129 other GG1s remained green and the “Broadway Limited” was usually pulled by a Brunswick green GG1 and most passenger diesels were Tuscan Red although a few green ones were still yet to be repainted.

At least it is MAP....unlike some of the other things in retail. I can remember when I was pushing appliances Maytag had a price lock on their products...same everywhere. Loved it when customers said they were going to "shop around for a better price", yeah hunny, its gonna be the same everywhere unless you look at last years or a discontinued model.

To be fair, unless you copy the URL you can't get that page unless you go to BLW's main page for the GG-1 and press the "Click for Price" button.  It might be stretching the terms of the MAP policy, but Pete could probably argue the issue.

So you changed work related songs from " I Want My MTV " to " Bad Boy " .

Guess it was to much of a 'stretch' or Pete's not very good a debate.  Check it now.

Don't forget about the Port Road from Perryville to Harrisurg along the scenic banks of the Susquehanna, as well as the old Atglen & Susquehanna that broke off of the normal 4 track mainline between Philly and Lancaster (at Atglen PA) and was mostly single track.

Those are both awfully tempting layout ideas.

Ed, the A&S was entirely double-tracked from where it left the C&PD south of Columbia, PA to Atglen.

The C&PD, though was single-tracked from that point south to where it connected with the NEC south of Port Deposit near Perryville.

Ahh, ok, I didn't realize the A&S had two tracks.

That's a cool line though. Would make for a fun layout now that these are available. That's right, I'm looking at YOU, Dave. :)
