GG1 Electric: PRR # 4395 (Brunswick Green 5 Stripe)
Blackened Metal Pantograph's. Able to handle 9 3/4 inch radius. Illuminated Directional Class Lights, Headlights and Number Boards. DCC Friendly

I am well within their policy. All I mentioned was their MAP price.

I got a four page document from Kato today that outlines their policy.

I can't say I'm super-happy about the pricing thing, though.  And I'm nervous aboutthis "DCC-friendly" thing.  No reason why any new N scale locomotive should not be DCC-ready.  I would imagine a drop-in would be produced by Digitrax, though I like hard-wiring.  Either way, I hope it's just a case of semantics and at the very least, it's no less DCC-ready than, say, the Spectrum 2-8-0.  Given that their E8/P42 chasis is probably the easiest DCC install in all N scale, I hope Kato won't take a step back.  I hope that "friendly" means "ready."

Dave: I don't know why but Kato continues to use the term "DCC Friendly" despite that fact that their locos are DCC Ready. I suppose that they are not assuming anyone will make a drop-in decoder for a given loco, thus making it "Friendly" to a hard wire.

Okay, that's fine.  As long as it's a split-frame with an isolated motor, I'll call it "DCC-ready."  The Mike, on the other hand...!

If this does sell well (and why shouldn't it?-the GG1 is perhaps the most famous electric locomotive of all time), I would not be surprised if Digitrax makes a drop-in.  After all, the Kato E8/P42 has two replacement board decoders available (Digitrax and MRC).  If there's room, I really like the TCS M1 hardwired.

I look at that and see a starting point for some Centipede trucks.  Bring on Seaboard Centipedes!!!

And thus covering their butt as they should . They are not foolish enough to fall pray to false advertising . No over bloated spin spoken is the way it should be . Them  , being that careful , tends to make me believe their statement about its pulling ability .

You're the only one that sees that. The driver diameter and axle spacing are very, very different.  ::)

Ah, yes, it would be more of a "megapede...!"  Not sure I'd want to be anywhere near trackside when that thing comes by!

Will they do a special shell for 4800?  What's the point of being a rivet counter if there aren't any rivets?

I'll hold out for the second run of these, which I guess we can expect in what, 2024?...  By then I'll have my layout converted to DCC catenary...
