I woke up with a bad feeling this morning.  Since I will invest the time to make three of these, a manufacturer will surely announce RTR versions* soon. 

What kind of wire do you need to make handrails?  I have some here that looks scale, but it's not very stiff.  I noticed that handrails differ on the prototype, so maybe I'll tackle an easier version.

I'm using Detail Associates 229-2503 .010 wire on mine.  Just the right hardness, easy to work with, easy to solder, comes in straight sections.

Hey, Tom, I would have thought the same thing by now.  If it were anybody else by Kato, they would have put 2+2 together and started an entire line of critter bodies for the US market.

The Tomix 'critter' has a flywheel, but the motor and whole deal is too big for a 44-tonner.

Because of the excellent electrical pickup (when you get some weight in it) I don't think the flywheel is such a big issue, myself.  It would be nice, but I decided a long time ago it wasn't a killer.

What about adding a capacitor?

I think getting one with enough mf might make it too big to fit . If it was that easy we would have seen them in place of flywheels long ago . Arc suppression is one thing , but storage oooph is another . Just guessing here though .

The Z scale guys add capacitors all the time, they must be fairly small.

I checked the porch and my shell is here already. They are pretty nice, have a tread pattern on the walkways. Some flash to clean up, but nothing that will look wrong when you scrape it all away.

The body is a very close match size wise with mine. And the Kato motor fits!!! One of my hoods is a tight fit, but the other looks like they thinned it out and the motor falls right in there.

Good news indeed . The cab will be able to have an engineer without seeing the motor under his butt .

Hey , I just got mine today also . Motor fits if it isn't laying flat . No problems in doing that that I can see so far .

It is possible I cleaned Chuck out, yes.

But what else am I going to power the 44 tonners with?  A shorted Dash8?

1/2 hour after it came in the mail . Snipped chassis from both ends , Goo'ed motor on edge , and ground down chassis protrusions so it sucked up into the shell  . I am working on another project so this will be a hit and miss for a week . As Randy said , Couplers need to be addressed before there is any frame stretching , so that will be next as soon as I know the chassis is as sucked up in the shell as far as I need it to be . This is going to be a done deal . Whats left is wiring , handrails , couplers , and fit and finish . This is more my speed , I am not like you experts at pulling a rabbit out of a hat .

If you used a shortened PCM chassis you'd get sound as well  ;D

Their overseas shipping is not that favourable though..I'll wait for my next paycheque anyway as I had to repair the PC this week too.
