Etched is the only way to go. These are nickel-silver and are still too soft. My initial concern was that too many bends would cause brittle stainless steel to break. The end result is that most of the smaller details like steps and grabs that were part of the fret could not be used because they would just deform and not hold their shape. That is the main reason why this model is using BLMA stirrups and bronze grabs instead of the etched ones.

My next run will be stainless steel.

I thought that undercut was strictly related to the thickness of the material being etched (not to its hardness).

As for nickel-silver, I remember that Clover House used to sell sheets of it with different hardnesses.

The sequencing is done with a mechanical drum and contacts!   YAY!  That is so cool.

Late addition: a neon OPEN sign. The effect is extremely difficult to photograph—I'm almost embarrassed to show this video. It looks infinitely better in person--just ask @VonRyan who saw it run for the first time this morning.

Max:  I haven't seen a mechanical sequencer in years.  It's nice to know some of the old tech hasn't been forgotten.  In some cases, like this one, it's much easier than fancy electronics, even if it is larger.
