I finished NKP 161.   Model Power Pacific.  Northeast Decals.  Tender from a Bachmann light mountain, DCC (TCS M1 + Keep Alive), and brass bell from Peteski.

I also lettered a Kato observation as NYC "Theodore Roosevelt" for the Empire State Express.  Home-made decals using Railfont font and an edited photo for the drumhead.  this is the drumhead:

No guardrails - self-guarding frogs.  The Russian Decapods hated them, as many were regauged for American use by installing wider tires.  They wouldn't go through self-guarding frogs with bouncing.

Wider tires wouldn’t do much to help Russian decapods run on American trackage seeing as how most of Russia is 5ft gauge.

This is an Erie Decapod that looks like right after they got it. Still has a lot of the Russian looking stuff. After the wheels where regauged the center driver has an extended shaft out to the main drive rod. This was so they didn't need to move the cylinders in to match the wheels. The cylinders are all one big casting so you can't just move them in.

Working on some cars for my Texas Special.  I thought I'd post some "in progress" shots which I don't normally do.  The car with the red roof is the diner and the other car is the coach/buffet/lounge.  These are old Des Plaines Hobbies kits (Des Plaines Hobbies etched metal sides on American Limited core kits)  Very nice metal sides. 
I also have the mail/baggage, coach/dormitory,  and observation car to build yet.

I have one car finshed so far:  diner #1100, car name Sam Houston.

Model Flex SP Scarlet and Milw Maroon.  Silver is Krylon rattle can dull aluminum.  Decals by Circus City Decals.  Roof vents are kato parts from the Super Chief diner.

The Russian Decapods didn’t require any modifications to the machinery.   The only real work was putting special tires on the driver centers with extra wide treads (moving the flanges in to 4’-8 1/2”).   (Note on the engine above even the lead truck wheels were retired and the treads overhang the rail). This made them a problem as self-guarding frogs came into broader use. (Thump thump thump thump thump).
The embargoed production (Russian revolution) was distributed under USRA control. In spite of having Left Hand drive and appliances not normally used in North America they were well suited to lightly built lines and most had long service lives.
But they were doomed to be announced in N but never released....so far.

Updates on the FCN...  September, 2020 or so...

The FCN layout, grew a few square inches (maybe a foot) over the Holiday Season last year.
I wanted the Randolph location to be a little deeper. So, I pulled out and shortened the fascia, by about 4 inches and inserted some plywood fill.   In the photo below,  everything between the mainline track and the edge of the layout is NEW material.   This allowed me to add some more detail.  The Cenex station, DOES exist in The Real World, Randolph...
In the far Left edge of the photo, the "Office" for the FCN Tranloads facility is NEW TOO!!



Other Updates were with rolling stock.   I am finally getting around to try some of the Highball Graphics decals purchased, earlier in this year...
One example is this Chemical Tankcar...  Dupont



MR&T ACF Hopper....  The decals just arrived a few days ago.  The set (made by Highball Graphics) is available from Kalmbach, Right Now and are ONLY for Locos and Cabooses.  I took the Lettering and Logo from the set and including pieces from my stock of Microscale decals.  Cobbled this car together.  I do plan on doing a Gondola or two with the remaining pieces "lettering and logo" from the decal set..



I also, am catching up on Updating the rolling stock to post-2005 standards, with "painting-out" the CAPY data and the addition of "Safety Stripes"...   This is one of the two, (FVM) MRT cars that I have...



Just wish I could get some "Utah Belt" decals...
