  • 12 of the Walthers HO Ortner hoppers, undergoing modifications to match the NSC clones of the Ortner car.
  • a Walthers Troop Sleeper for baggage car conversion
  • several Branchline Trains boxcars (Berwicks and some 40 footers)
  • several Sylvan (50' newsprint and 40' boxcars) and Kaslo (52' bulkhead flatcars) resin kits
  • also a Norwest Models CPR coach kit
  • half-finished scratchbuilt woodchip car
  • oh yeah, and some Accurail 40' boxcars

Prototype photos for a couple of the above projects:

Ok ... whats everyone working on?

Keeping my sanity, quite a challenge - especially during finals week  :o

My patching of SD45s has stalled due to work/school overload, but I will get back to them as soon as I start my new college quarter AND transfer departments at Fred Meyer!

If there is anything going on, it's on the bench(s).  Unfortunately, even if it's not going on, that's where it is. :P

Bob in IDaho, who isn't greedy, I'd be satisfied with 5 in a row in Powerball.

Numbering some un-numbered Guilford units for a freind.

You might add that it's an extremely grateful friend, as well.  ;D

A new bench ;D

My layout is in the basement but my work table is in kid #4's room.  He's off in college and getting a year round apartment so the bunk bed goes (we have plenty of other sleeping places for any of the kids that are passing through).  My plans are to build a large L shaped work table sitting on storage cabinets.  I'm considering replacing the carpet with one of the laminate floors. I'm concerned that my chair (an office chair with wheels) will be hard on the laminate.  Anyone have experience?

I'm also considering lights for the bench.  I recall a brand of bench lights called "Ott Lights" that were supposed to be close to daylight.  Anyone ever try these?

Once the new bench is done I'll have room for even more unfinished projects ;)

Best regards,

Roger

Just finished the ballast doors for a Herzog conversion of a Thrall coal gon. I'm also building sides for a pair of Atlas 55 ton hoppers ala WM. Then I need to make a new coupler pad/detail part for those Amfleets I have and then I'll finish up my Great Dome for Amtrak 10031, along with decaling a pair of baggage cars as well.

Gonna have a busy week.

I've been using GE's Reveal lamps for awhile. On thing to keep in mind is that the work light needs to be the same as the layout light. Colors can really shift between lighting!

Paper work is currently occupying my work bench, lot's of Digitrax/TCS and Lenz decoder paperwork for setting the CV's on my newly installed DCC system. I just got my MRC Prodigy Advanced, and learning all the little differences between each of the manufactures decoder options. Overall this has taken presedence over my planned vehicle painting and building, having just bought 6 new MakeMyModels, 20+ Lineside vehicles, and still untouched CnC kits and GHQ. Having too much fun with the DCC.

Well, my Feb challenge car is off the bench and on the layout (a move of six inches).  Pics for SNFF, of course.

Notice to the left in the photo the NS DS4-4-1000 as well.  That is on my list.

Today?
Finished up the building flat for Leavitts Dept store
with the Micro Engineering Citgo sign I picked up
in Springfield and worked on the Engine & Ladder 4
Fire Station which is the last building on the Manchvegas
portion of the layout; hopefully my last structure
project for a while as I have a big plastic bin of unbuilt
vehicles to get going on for the layouts.
