Yeah, the trucks are a little too far inset [ edit - turns out they are not, see below ].  I do have NKP equipment diagram with dimensions like that on it.   Moving them requires filling the existing bolster hole and drilling a new one.

The trucks on the NKP car are about 2' more inset than the Erie car

Why'd you post that in crew? I belongs here.  :D

I have one of these for N&W. The first thing that struck me about the model (aside from ride height) is that the trucks need to be closer to the ends (at least for N&W this is so, haven't been able to find a pic of the NKP proto).

Which N&W car?   Might be, the same car.  Does the number end in 2093?

I'd move those trucks outward for both getting the car lower *and* the appearance.  Yes, you'd have to fill and drill new holes, more work, LOL.

Ha - No. I will likely use it to model N&W class F43 (70096-70098), built in 1966-67 by Thrall. Might use it for NW F1 (70999, built 1948 Roanoke Shops). One dilemma is that the trucks on the F43 are roller bearing ...

Did you mean 2903?  ;) I don't have any pics of N&W 202903 (or NKP 2903).

I wrote an article on lowering the MTL depressed center flatcar for NSR years ago. It also requires mounting the trucks further outbound. Basically you mill the existing bolsters flat, drill new bolster holes outward, remove the truck mounted couplers and swap in 28” wheels.

I also discarded the plastic decks and reworked the ends from styrene and wood to match the prototype.

MT offered roller bearing Buckeye 6 wheel trucks.

I'm guessing that's this issue in the NSR index:  026 Nov/Dec 2004 40-44 NYC and New Haven Depressed Center Flatcars Bussey, Bryan

Any have a pointer to a digital copy of this article (this was when NSR was still printed)?

The roller bearing Buckeye trucks tooled for the DODX flatcars are different however from the friction-bearing Buckeye and Commonwealth trucks tooled for the depressed center flatcar.

I've got a pair in my stash.  Longer wheelbase, lower bolster, no coupler.  Should have checked before I posted about it earlier.
