FYI as a non-user of Facebook, this is obviously not correct. There are any number of really great layouts with their own Facebook page, or group, where progress is documented over time and people follow along. It's no different than a traditional forum and of course "nice" is entirely subjective.

James,

I get why some folks don't do Facebook and, lately, I feel the pinges to leave it. But the RR-specific fan sites are a great source of prototype photos.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

I use FB to keep up with my extended family - but lately the "feed' is full of crap that I don't care about - seems to be posted by various bots ..

Agreed, I don’t see any posts by most family and friends at all in the feed anymore.  It’s just as you described.

Same for me. The trick is to click on 'Feeds' over on the left of the screen. Then you will only see posts from people you follow and groups you've joined.
Facebook will then show a little red dot next to the 'Home' button at the top of the screen to try to lure you back to their feed, but you can just ignore that.

But there are 3 rails in the photo. Which rails are we off of?   :ashat:

Don't use the "feed." Just go to the pages you want to see.

For example, I've been watching the East Broad Top re-laying track to Saltillo in real time by checking in on their Facebook page. Same for the folks rebuilding the former DSP&P/C&S yard at Como, CO.

Facebook's feed is crap, yes. At no point do I want to be misconstrued as advocating for Facebook's "feed" format. I mainly ignore the feed and just bounce around the various groups and pages that matter to me.

But every now and then the feed will actually recommend another railroad or model railroading page I've never heard of that ends up being a great fit.

You can downvote me all you want for speaking up on behalf of the content on social media, but please make a distinction between the content and the format. I'm advocating for the former in spite of the latter. I don't find it ideal as a consumer either. But I find it ridiculously easy to use as a content creator. I often take a photo on the layout and have it shared in 3 different Facebook groups in a matter of seconds.

For those of you that aren't averse, here are my two layout-specific Facebook pages:

That’s East Tennessee & Western North Carolina (ET&WNC) No. 2, a narrow gauge Mogul (2-6-0) named “Cranberry,” taken in 1904 when it derailed in the yard located at Johnson City, Tennessee.  Built in 1881 by Baldwin, it had lost its original large diamond stack by the time of this picture.
