Hey all. For years I’ve been working on a British Columbia Railway Royal Hudson consist, accurate in the mid-80’s. The missing pieces have been the cars that were exAFT exx Reading commuter cars.

A fellow in France, under the handle “Interurban Models” (Facebook Marketplace store) has begun 3D printing the Reading cars in N scale. I contacted him to make a sizeable order for myself and three other BCR modellers, and he was gracious enough to make the changes I bay were present while in service on the BCR, and also the consists previous owner, AFT. This included making one of the cars into a business car!

I took delivery of them today and I’m quite impressed. They are filament prints but very very fine. The only artifacts I can see without magnification are on the compound curved on the roof ends. I’ll need to do a little sanding there.

The cars come assembled, with trucks, dummy couplers, MT 36” wheels, glass, separate roofs, steps, diaphragms, roof vents, etc. they don’t have any rivet detail but other than that they are awesome.

He also ships then in little cartons so that all arrived in perfect condition.

This is a great model to have in N scale.

Craig.

Edit:  I should mention his main thing is street cars and trolleys.

Ooh very interesting!  The RDG Newtown Branch is a project that kicks around my brain now-and-then.  These would be perfect for that line!

What's the cost?

72 Euro for a pair, plus shipping. Only listed in pairs on the site and I didn’t inquire about singles as we needed an even number of cars. Pairs can be any combination of the body styles.

I'm going to need to order two sets for myself, one for the AFT and one for the Preambles, hopefully someone has done the decals for the Preambles

Since I'm planning on building an accurate (well, within reason) model of the AFT someday, this is a very interesting development.

In case you didn't know, RailSmith is doing the Preamble cars although they are classic versions.

Aren't those completely wrong car types for the Preamble cars?  I originally started buying Lowell's AFT cars, but seeing how wrong most of them were, I decided to get a decal set and try to cobble a more accurate rendition.

And he's using the old Walther's coaches, which are no where close to the Preambles, I wouldn't even call them "classic"

I'm not on FB so I went to the MyShopify website Rich found to order my cars.
https://interurban-models.myshopify.com/collections/mainline-railroads-1-160-n/products/160-5102x2

Well, the description shows that they will come painted (I would like undecorated) and there is not place I can select which specific cars I want in the 2-pack.  I put them in my cart to see if maybe I could make my choices there. Actually there is no contact information anywhere on the website.

Maybe I'll PM @craigolio1  to see if he has some alternate way of contacting the maker of these so I could communicate my choices to him. It is really too bad that merchants tie themselves to FB.

When I ordered them he sent me an email that night to discuss what options I wanted. That’s when I told him about my use and when he offered to modify them. He sent them to me unpainted since he knew I would want to use a specific Tuscan red. He’s very good at communicating.

I took the cars appart tonight and they are beautifully designed. Roof comes off. An insert that holds the windows in place comes out. Trucks pins are pushed out through a hole inside in the floor. Steps and diaphragms can be removed for painting. It’s a really nice design.

My next step will be to body mount some couplers.

Thanks Craig. There were no options to select during purchase (other than the roadnames).  So  the seller will contact me for more details after the purchase.  That makes me feel better.  I guess I'll ask if he can print one of the coaches modified for the AFT bar car (3 windows blanked out).

I reached out to Volkmar and asked to share his email. He said no problem and he’s going to add a contact form to the Shopify so that non-FB users can reach him. In the meantime time this is the email.
