Exciting Friday night chasing wires.  Which color wire goes to which rail, which color is the frog, wait, that color was the left, now it's right.  That was frog now it's left.  Pink and teal ? (not pictured)  Which side do they belong ?

I used black for the left rail going north or west, and red for the right rail going north or west.


Good progress on the layout this week as I push forward with the extension to the Fort St. John Subdivision.

Span across the Highway 97 cutting painted and installed:




Ramp for balsa sub-roadbed along the wall sanded to achieve a constant gradient of about 0.70 per cent:




New track bus wires for the Fort St. John Subdivision installed in place of the old ones, with feeder wires attached:




The track bus, auxiliary bus and command bus extend through the rear wall and along the underside of the rear shelf:

As soon as the Highway 97 and Pine River sections are mounted, it will be time to install the sections for Tremblay above them so I have started getting them ready.  These two sections fared well during the move and I had only to re-attach the Singlets for the servos and some of the LED light fixtures:




I can now move on to trackbed and track for the Fort St. John Subdivision.

Set a standard and stick to it (I violated this on my current layout) .. but I always have the black bus wire on the rail closest to the edge of the layout which feeds block detectors and non-detected track -- the red wire is common to the booster -- I really should tear it down and start over ..

No reflective sill stripes on this engine means it’s not part of the national rail system , plant switcher I assume.doesn’t fall under any of the federal regulations. Probably no crossings either. I think even if you are a railroad that falls under the FRA you could get a waiver for reflective tape if you don’t have any crossings on your rail line. You could certainly make a case.

My right-of-way runs east to west. Facing “east”, the left rail is black and the right rail is red. I use green for turnout and crossing frogs that are controlled by either digital relays or Frog Juicers.

On the sill stripe discussion, Are the diagonal stripes not reflective on the above loco? Do sill stripes per the FRA need to be a certain color and continuous/unbroken? I ask because I believe the verbiage for conspicuity stripes on highway trailers say something like "50% of the entire trailer length".

Finished up the first two of my GP35 builds this past week.

Looking at Dave V's RGS pictures, and reading the discussion on sill stripes, brings up a question:  Where do you put the stripes on a steam locomotive?

Not as odd a question as it might seem, as both the C&TS, D&SNG, and EBT cross public highways, and the C&TS is engaged in "interstate commerce", as they haul paying passengers across a state line.
