Ken Patterson & "What's Neat" tackles N scale!

I know Ken's gotten some flak for being HO-centric, but he's starting a nice-sized N scale project railroad in July's "What's Neat in Model Railroading."

What would really be neat would be a "What's Neat" video that doesn't take a couple lifetimes to watch.

But Ken's a talented modeler so I am sure his efforts will look outstanding.

My sentiments, too. Thankfully it's easy to scan forward through the fluff to get to the content.

I've quit bothering to fast forward.

Interesting way to make a foam board base from two layers.

I wonder what would be a good way to make module joints?   I imagine two pieces of plywood, glued to each foam substrate with the Great Stuff Foam Pro, and aligned with table pin dowels.

Surprised honestly that he chose to lay track directly on the foam.
In my own experience, the foam is a little too loud.

Even with cork roadbed, some might find it too loud.  Applying scenery seems to dampen the sound, though.

Other than paying for the device and my internet connection.  I can live with Ken Patterson's and others video, even though they may not produce exactly what I want in exact matter and subject.  It's free and on a topic that is not all that mainstream.  I've been tested I possess the skills of application and correlation.  That means you take the useful stuff from the presentation because you can never know it all.

it amazes me you get stuff like DansRailroad2011 for free.  Before YouTube you would have to buy the magazine and other media, or hang out with someone with questionable hygiene and socials skills.  The former was sometimes worth it.

He has the tendency to shape the foam as roadbed and dig out either side of the right a way as a slope or lowered scenery.

Is Ken taking acting classes?  The emotion and hand motion with which he says "19 inches" is peculiar.

Side question - Why is Walthers sponsoring this episode?  What do they have to do with N scale?

Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

I suspect they're donating a bunch of buildings to the scenicking phase of N scale project. They do have a dominating presence in N structures.

You apparently missed the "tongue in cheek" intent of the statement.  And Walthers' presence is only in the US, in regards to structures.  If we remove our shiny red hats, we might notice that European modelers have better selection from other manufacturers.

If he is taking acting lessons, he needs to go back and review where they teach you to wear only one pair of glasses at a time.
