Weekend Update 11/29/20

The Shenandoah Junction module is now largely complete.  I take sections of styofoam to the workroom to work on the scenery, but when it comes time to install each section it is quite a bit of work to blend everything together - I suppose this will get easier with practice.  The first photo shows a view from where railfans frequently congregate.  The second is a montage of 4 images from the just installed modules.  I need to set up a tripod and take some better photos tomorrow, after which I will post a fuller description on the Layout Engineering thread under the Cumberland Subdivision.  Hope everyone had a restful Thanksgiving!

The two RS-18s are looking much different with the completion of basic painting.   They are finished in two slightly different variants of the two-tone green scheme.   The big chunky yellow handrails will be far less apparent with the application of weathering.   

I also took the opportunity to give the two RS-3s a fresh coat of yellow on the pilots as I had substantially over-weathered them last year to the point that the yellow was barely visible.   Prototype protos of both types of locomotives show that the handrails typically weather to almost black but the pilots generally retain a dusty yellow.

Thanks.  The pliers holders are various sizes of schedule 40 PVC to handle 3 different handle thicknesses.  The knives section is made from the smaller 1/2 inch tan pvc pipe and fittings.  I used an end cap and drilled a hole in the middle so I could screw it down to the plywood.  Then a short piece of pipe followed by a 45 degree angle and then another piece of pipe.  The pipes below the knives hold my pin vises and it just so happens that the pin vises are stopped by the shoulder of the 45 degree pieces and therefore I can have a needle or drill bit in them and it doesn't touch anything which is nice because I like to leave various bits in them while I'm working a project.

I set up the tripod this morning to that I could take a series of photos with different focal planes, using my iPhone.  I then used a free on-line stacking service (focusstackingonline.com) to merge the images.  This photo is looking west. More photos and some text under the Layout Engineering section in the Cumberland Subdivision thread.  This photo is from a stack of 7 photos.  I just focused at different points along the track.

Hope Everyone had a Good Thanksgiving Holiday...

On the FCN,

I Finally got the crossing lights installed and working at Almond and replaced the ones' at Ford City, on the FCN.   






The structures are better than, what I had had.  But, my brass-working skills are getting better.  So you never know...

Nice!  Is this T-gauge?  The handrails look really fine.

Yes, all 1:450 (T) scale.  Handrails are etched brass, 0.15mm thick.  Pretty sensitive to being mangled, but fortunately they bend back outwards if you pinch them a little.  I adhere them with Krystal Klear and the occasional ACC droplet.
