First test run of a Pecos River Brass NYC Niagara after a major rebuild of the mechanism. Everything still has to be adjusted and the headlight is still missing, but it's good to see a running Niagara after seeing it for decades only in box. A second Niagara will follow soon. Now we only have to find the right sound file

Given my past experiences with the average driver around a rail yard (among other incidents, we had one truck destroy the AT&T cable box - twice!), I'm not entirely surprised to see that sort of approach.

Brake wheels and railing safety chains added to New Haven work train caboose C-118.

I hate to nit pick, but that safety chain looks like anchor chain for a battleship compared to the beautiful hand and grab rails you made.

N scale details tend to look that way when blown up to O scale size.  The chain is 40 links per inch.  You can barely see it with the naked eye.

I think Chris has a point, and it doesn't help that it's black set against the white carbody. But I have to agree the chain is kinda chunky, even when the photo is reduced down in size closer to 1:1. All of those solutions don't look like linked chain to me.

I may explore using the chain extracted from an Atlas NE-6 end railing if it's smaller.  That may serve the purpose.

Yesterday I finished my N scale model of the Milwaukee Road's famous shop built "Goat" X3800. This was a detailed 3D print from Shapeways in the link below.

Base colours are acrylic and weathering is mostly oils with powders for the rusting around the electric arching marks.
