my honest experience is that there are some people have to be negative no matter what.  Manufacturers actually enjoy legitimate feedback and CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.

I'd bet money that ScaleTrains will actually sell more of these units because of this and good for them.  Any project that is successful encourages them to do more.

Well well well well , I will have dive deep into the well . I plan on getting all four standard turbines but not getting on all fours for the DCC ones . I tried to find someone who has preorders for these , no luck so far . I tried to get on Scaletrains site but my Norton blocks , stating an un secure connection . I even joined FBook , went to Scaletrains site , couldn't find a list of retailers . When I tried to order via Scalestrains Fbook site I also was blocked with an un secure connection message . Any thoughts on how I can spend a small wad of C notes ?

They have a large FaceBook presence; I suspect that's where the pushback comes from.  FB's posters are notorious for their negativism.

The Premier on YouTube had lots of negative comments as well. I wish I did not watch with chat on, those were brutal.
I legitimately feel bad for ST, putting all that hard work into developing a cool and unique model like the Turbine, to get such negative feedback because it is "not [this era]" or "not [this model]." Hoping the Turbine does well, and, as the loco shop guy in my group, I look forward to seeing how it is powered and put together, should be a really interesting mechanism!

Yep, pretty much sums up my sentiments too.
Even though these are way out of my era, I’ve decided to get a couple.  I will use them with my UP excursion passenger cars as a railfan special.  I’m actually looking forward to hearing the sound on these puppies.  Will make a nice change from all the EMD and GE diesels.  Now that I’m thinking about it in this way this would also give me a great excuse to get a steam loco too for a similar railfan special.   I don’t have any steam locos.   
 Oooh, now mr wallet is really complaining.  Come on Uncle Sam with the next stimulus check.  Scale Trains make some beautiful stuff, I’m just wondering what the minimum radius will be

I wonder if the excess negativity is a byproduct of the tough year we are all experiencing.  ST hyped this announcement, folks got their hopes up, and no matter what model they announced, a lot of people were going to be disappointed.  Nasty and nonsensical Internet comments are to be expected; the phone call complaints are surprising.

Remembering back to the days when various people posted complaints here about not wanting DCC, or not wanting sound, or not wanting details that break off, and not wanting to pay for things expensive coming standard that they don't want, isn't Scale Trains doing exactly what those posters were asking?  Scale Trains is making models with the options of having or not having all of those things.  And they are making excellent models.

So, now the complaint is that Scale Trains is not making models of all the prototypes that some individuals are looking for (at least not yet.)

It seems to me that the best way for people to get what they want is to not try to damage the company that seems most likely to be listening to them and trying to please them. 

But, way too many people across the whole world now seem to be thinking that the way to get what they want is to express outrage that they don't already have it.  That is a spoiled child's approach to life! 

I hope to see Scale Trains prosper and expand.  Not only might they make something that fits my modeling era and locale, they might even sway the other manufacturers to listen to us more closely to understand the market better.  That is, if some of the obnoxious folks don't completely turn them of to listening to anybody.

Exactly. While the turbine may not be exactly what I wanted to see, or what I need, I'd still like to see them do well with it. Because if it sells, that means they've got money to do future projects with...

After a hiatus of a few years to pursue another interest, I’m getting back to my N scale roots and have been following this Scale Trains announcement.
  I’m of the belief that some manufacturers consider N to be nothing more than miniature Lionel, where most don’t follow a specific era/prototype. N scalers buy what’s cool. They go to Ntrak or T-track shows and run what they brung. The fact that many will buy a turbine that have no interest in modeling UP or that era bears witness. How many 4-8-4’s did Kato sell that still sit in the jewel case or people bought “just to have one”.
  I didn’t see that much in HO. I’m sure it happens, but more modelers stick to a prototype and don’t jump the track spending hundred of dollars on something they won’t use or can’t justify on their layouts.
  There are so many glaring holes in my mid 70’s diesel roster, U-boats are a big one, along with 21st century GP30’s and 35’s, even updated GP7’s and 9’s, that I cant understand why no manufacturers have stepped up to the plate.
  But I’m no marketing analyst so maybe I’m off base. Maybe the one and done model makes more monetary sense than releasing a loco that could have several subsequent runs for different roads/paint schemes. I hope ST succeeds with this venture, more manufacturers is a good thing, and to deride them for their choices only sours them to trying.

Kind of wondering why number 57 is being released without a tender and whether (i.e., as was the case with the "Big Blow" turbines) ScaleTrains will eventually make separate UP 22-C-GTE tenders available for purchase.

Also wondering if numbers 51, 52, and 56 will be sold with stainless steel Farr grill additions.

The era fits, but wrong side of the country for me.  I'm disappointed this isn't something that interests me, but I'm glad they did a model from the 50's/60's.  I hope this sells well for them and they do other locos.  I have no need for the C39 (wrong era for me), but was considering buying one after seeing one at Trainfest a couple of years ago.  It was very well done - unique looking loco and awesome detailing. 

I hope the folks at ScaleTrains don't get discouraged by the negative feedback and keep on making top notch models. 

I'd really like to see some Phase III GP9's or some updated GP30's, SD40's, SD45's or some U-boats (U28, U30, U33, U36).  An updated FA1/FA2 would be another good choice.
