I truly hope this new loco does well for scale trains.  They are my favorite locos.
It’s not for me this time though.
I’m a mid 90’s and SP guy too and I stretch reality in the prototypes I run.  All those locos mentioned by @kiwi_bnsf plus an sd70M flat rad are on my radar to purchase. And like you said some of them would be pretty easy to adapt from resent runs of very similar locos.
Just look at how much those old Kato SP, SD70M flat rads go for on EBay.   I’m waiting ST.......😉

“Several members of our team have visited with me today about the unfavorable phone calls, e-mails, and online comments we’ve received about our latest N Scale locomotive announcement.  Each of us cares greatly about our company and what we do which makes receiving some of the dismissive and sometimes hostile feedback difficult to digest.

As I told our team, we will never create a model that will make everyone happy because real-world trains are so diverse – the variety of roadnames; numerous eras; popularity of the prototype; subject matter; similar models in the marketplace; etc.  I encouraged our people to not be distracted by the negativity and continue to be focused on creating the best models we possibly can and offering the highest level of service to our customers.

For those who question why we decided to offer the Standard Turbine in N Scale, here’s some additional insight.  The N Scale “Big Blow” Turbine was a success.  The only Standard Turbine in N Scale was tooled nearly 50 years ago.  We believed creating a Standard Turbine with today’s tooling technology coupled with the success of the 3-Unit Super Turbine would also make another viable project.  Based on the initial preorders, this appears to be a good decision.

From the beginning, we knew this model would not be for everyone and that’s ok.  We have plenty of other projects in the pipeline that will appeal to a variety of modelers over time.

I'm not in the hunt for one myself (well, time will tell!) but was actually thinking a lot of people are going to be thrilled and I was happy that new models are still being created given our current situation.

Dismaying to hear about that sort of feedback. Hopefully this unit is every bit the success they hope it will be; I'll look forward to the next offering they have that I'll be interested in.

I'm sure it'll be a hit. Shane already said pre order numbers were looking good. I wanted a Big blow but couldn't justify it at the time. I just might be able to justify 51 this time around. If they end up doing a Veranda that'll be a no brainer for me.
