As one of our token UP fan-boys, I just don't see it. I will buy one for the cause, but these were gone by '64, I model '65-'75-ish. Maybe they'll use the chassis as a base for the Veranda (also scrapped in '64), and then move on the U50 and - heaven forbid - the C855 trio. A guy can dream, can't he?

Something to think about, however - these operated concurrently with the Challengers and Big Boys. Athearn sold the snot out of those, so here's some big, equally-unique power to go with 'em.

Is it just me, or did the truck castings appear particularly "soft"? I certainly hope production molding is sharper than what I saw in the pictures.

For me, right era, wrong railroad.  Between this and the upcoming Big Boy from Kato, and the new track to relay all the curves, and the basement expansion to allow for the radius, the UP crowd is gonna need a go-fund-me page.

I would bet on the Veranda first.

But if they want to sell something to me, they would be better off with Fairbanks Morse Erie Built.  I'd take an A-B-A set.  Well, if I keep getting stimulus checks.

Cool model, but I do not need or want one. They look great, as expected, though the thing that stood out to me the most is the pilots seem to be disconnected from the frame. Is that prototypical, or am I just seeing things?

Yes, prototypical. Trucks were on a spanning bolster, like you see on 8-axle flat cars for heavy loads. The pilots had to swing out from under the carbody.

Which is a relevant point - I thought I heard Shane said they were only able to power the end trucks, which is like the Con-Cor Veranda and U50. Question is - where is the bolster swivel point? Centered on the span, or centered on the powered truck. Makes quite a difference in the appearance around curves.

No interest here. I ran one of their C39-8s with sound, so I'd like to give scaletrains some money, but it needs to be justifiable. I do have some of their covered hoppers, and they're beautiful.

Speaking of Con- Cor, anyone else think scaletrains is going to start doing modernized versions of Con-Cor's old offerings?

Not a lot of overlap for side-by-side operation - only 1958 to 1964. That's a fairly narrow window.
