Making two Reading M1 2-8-2.

I just striped the tenders of two BLI 2-8-2s to turn them into Reading M1 type. Tenders need the coal bunker built up 13 scale inches and lights mounted on the water deck.  The engine will be a complete scratchbuilt job I hope to cast.  These BLI miles are very good runners and two will pull 55 loaded hoppers up my 1.34 grades all day long.

Ok the tenders are just about done.  I used the BLI stock one because they are very close to the later ones not only in size but other areas as well.   I had to move the ladder to the right side and file the holes left behind. I put the short railing around the deck and used GMM pe for the eyelets and .006 brass wire for rail.   I built up the coal bunker by 13 scale inches and piled it on big time ready for the haul.   I put a back up light on the deck like many early RDG locos had.  That is a 3D printed by Keystone Details.  I cut the round ends off the tank hatch. RDG had rectangle hatch covers.
     Next is the Bachmann 2-8-0s from back in the day.  The only thing good about those engines is they decided to make the shell a copy of the Baldwin built RDG 2-8-0.  It's a good starting point for the engine shell. More on that when I get some work done.

But can I ask... can you post higher resolution versions of your photos?  They are getting heavily scaled down in the post, so I can't see the detail well.

I once did a test fit of the old I-9/I-10 shell on the SPECTRUM power chassis.  It looked like it would fit with a little bit of work.

If you mean the Spectrum 2-8-0, it definitely does. You have to remove the plastic wire retainer on the top of the chassis and a little bit of plastic material from behind where the steam pipes meet the boiler, at which point it will slip all the way down, depending on the version of the shell (from what I can tell, there are at least two versions). One has clips on the back that actual lock onto the Spectrum mechanism, keeping the shell centered. The other one does not have these clips/nubs, but you can just add styrene spacers to do the same job. It would take a little bit more work to line up the steam pipes, but a "dry-fit" gets you pretty close.

If not using the user gallery for hosting photos (which is the best way to do this), when attaching photos to a post, select "inline full-size image".

Looking forward to this project too! The photo below shows Reading M-1sa 1714 at Erie Avenue in Philadelphia on 06-01-47. Lots of piping below the firebox and it looks like duel airpumps on the pilot.

I only have my Iphone for photos and thats as close as I can get within focus.  I'm not sure how to get the photos larger.  I can build you anything but I totally SUCK with tech things.  I'm using those Bachmann old 2-8-0 boilers as a base and yes I been messing with one on top of the new Bachmann 2-8-0.  Clearance is the issue inside the shell on the conversion. Mine is on hold till the 2-8-2s are done.

Any model of iPhone is capable of much larger size photos (and they do by default).  Looking at the names of those images you are uploading here are for example "thumbnail(16).jpg", so it seems that you are somehow selecting the small thumbnails of the full size photos instead of the photos themselves.  I don't have an iPhone, but maybe someone with iPhone can chime in.

I'll ask at work tomorrow. They're mostly kids (30's) with phones. Hell I was a month from 50 before i got my first flip. 9 years later I graduated to Iphone.

My first flip phone was a Motorola StarTAC.  If I went out of my network coverage range, it had to ROAM. 


I still have a flip phone (LG brand) as my main cell phone, but it uses 3G technology and I was told it will not longer be compatible with the network in couple of years.

I also own couple of cheap "burner" smart phones (TracFone), but they are not activated. I use them strictly as WiFi throttles (they are Android-based, so I run Engine Driver app on them).
