Well, I cheated a little.  The real Ridgway turntable was only 50 feet long and was an Armstrong turntable.  However, it couldn't turn a K-27, so K-27s could only be parked in the two stalls that were directly across the table from the turntable leads.  K-27s were turned on the wye north of town.

I don't have a wye or any other means to turn a locomotive anywhere.  So, I used the Kitwood Hill Models kit for the 65' Durango turntable which can turn any class of narrow gauge locomotive either the RGS or the D&RGW owned.  I built the kit per directions (although I lined the pit wall with stone paper) and it has a motor with a control lever per prototype.  I figured with the motor having been modeled, adding Armstrong levers would have been superfluous.

Wait... where exactly is the "modeled motor"? It still looks like an Armstrong turntable to me...

OK, look at the end closest to you.  The motor is underneath the extended platform to the left of the track.

Under that platform it looks like this.

Fair enough. That was not "in my face" obvious. My apologies.

I detailed up the ends of my SW1200. I think it's ready for a trip to the paint booth.

Well we made it through the Ops Session severely shorthanded.

Things we learned:
     *  You can tune a 40-year-old turnout on Monday and still have it fail on Saturday
     *  We’re not as young as we used to be
     *  I have added a lot of cars since I last tested all my equipment for reliability
     *  A sporadic short is still hiding somewhere in the wiring
     *  Operating sessions are a lot easier with a full crew.

Tell me about your handrail stanchions.

They are from Gold Medal Models (160-32). The railing is 0.008" phosphor bronze wire.

Three feet of ballast per day week.  I also began applying the base coat and some street markings to the road and grade crossing.

Dave, are you not painting the scenic base before you add ground cover?

Beautiful work on the SW1200 Reese!
What’s the prototype? There’s a lot of interesting stuff going on at the back of the hood.

@Dave V,

Yes, I painted it a sandy color, since I’m modeling the Sandhills of North Carolina.  It’s hard to tell in photos, because it washes out in my crappy cell phone pics.  It’s the same color as I used on the SC 2.0. In fact, it’s the leftover paint from the same can.  The soil in the Sandhills (former coastal sand dunes during prehistoric times) can bleach out to almost white when exposed to sunlight.

Jim

These are the 2 I based mine off of. Mine will be joining my freelance RR's fleet so I took a little from both and added a few other things to make it look like it was bought second hand and then modified.

Nice!   I am a big fan of wire handrails. 8)

What did you use for the safety chain?
