Yup, it’s definitely been too long. This guy was shorting out and had been sidelined. In a fit of inspiration I got her fixed. Turns out the pilot got bent down and was shorting on the pilot wheels.

Prepping for open house/ layout tours with the local hobby shop.  Never enough time to get everything done and ready to roll.   And oc course problems that weren't here last week show up night before

After 15 months of a 70% rebuild, having tuned all 63 turnouts, coated the tracks with Wahl’s clipper oil, cleaned the wheels on all the needed engines, staged all the off-site trains, and gotten the car cards and waybills lined up, I was ready for tomorrow’s resumption of operations and an attempt at running the complete 1954 freight schedule on the PRSL lines through Woodbury but then….
…after 2 last minute cancellations (medical, conflict) and exhausting the on-call list, we three that are left will attempt as much of the schedule as possible before exhaustion sets in.

It almost feels liked getting all dressed up to go out to eat and finding the only place open is McDonalds. 



But I guarantee you we will still have fun!

(Got to expand that operators list in the N Scale wastelands of southwest NJ).

The accumulation and rehabilitation of the Retro Fleet continues. 


I had purchased this to see if I could stuff the drive into the Rivarossi 0-8-0 shell I have, but the motor hangs out the back more than I like, so I did what I could to make it a viable member of the fleet.

I installed some pick up shoes to the tender (the only pick up of the original is the front two drivers... it hates ALL turnouts...) and packed some more lead under the shell to improve her tonnage rating.  She went from wobbling to death and stalling under the load of 4 cars, to veritably gliding around the layout pulling about 10.  On the gentler curves and more permanently installed snap track of the Retro 2.0 HCD layout, I'm hoping she'll do even better. 

As a B&O Mike, she's a total foob, but that's not the point of this project, is it?  I'll eventually give her a coat of weathering and add her to the regular rotation hauling my growing fleet of A1G outside braced boxcars.

Sure is good to see my old layout again!  Thanks again @eric220 for giving it a loving home!

I was bummed to find out that the Durango Press Fairmont speeder is almost a scale foot too wide for the doorways on the Builders in Scale Lizard Head section house...  I “shaved” the roof a bit to park it in the section shed but I’m not sure I like it.  Guessing the commonality in parts between their standard gauge and narrow gauge speeders is to blame.



I did more detailing in Ridgway Yard.

Well, I cheated a little.  The real Ridgway turntable was only 50 feet long and was an Armstrong turntable.  However, it couldn't turn a K-27, so K-27s could only be parked in the two stalls that were directly across the table from the turntable leads.  K-27s were turned on the wye north of town.

I don't have a wye or any other means to turn a locomotive anywhere.  So, I used the Kitwood Hill Models kit for the 65' Durango turntable which can turn any class of narrow gauge locomotive either the RGS or the D&RGW owned.  I built the kit per directions (although I lined the pit wall with stone paper) and it has a motor with a control lever per prototype.  I figured with the motor having been modeled, adding Armstrong levers would have been superfluous.
