Weekend Update 2/17/19

With the arrival of my baby boy, my modeling time has been reduced to almost nil. But since this past weekend was my last before returning to work, I decided to get a small project done. So I spent the past 2 days working to split the headlight in my Kato E8A so I could have separate mars light and headlight functions. Bulk of my time was spent splitting the headlight lens but keeping them connected somehow so it could still snap in to the shell and I wouldn't have to glue it in, since I would like to paint/weather the body eventually and didn't want to have to mask tiny things if I could avoid it.


Kinda crude, but I shaved a piece of wood to fit in between the large gap, superglued that in, cut the excess lens plastic to allow the second led to fit and glued a small sheet of black painted plastic to try to prevent light bleed.

Pretty happy with the results so far. Would be nice to dim the lights, but that may be for another time. There is a little bit of light bleed which you may notice, but again that may be for another time hehe.

   For years I've tried different ideas to get a proper tunnel portal with wing walls that was used by the WP without satisfactory success until now. The ones I've made in the past with stryene, I couldn't get a good fit on the wing walls to the portal. They had small gaps where I glued them to the portal and didn't look natural.


This is the portal that is on the Keddie side of the wye leg that goes up onto the high line.











 Here is the portal on the high line side.






 







 Now I have a portal that is close to the prototype.

Never been, though it's "only" a 10 1/2 hour drive.
(And with the passing of the Mean Green POS Machine, my newish Honda Fit Bananamobile could make it!)

I'm finishing up my SD9 modification, detailing passenger cars, and trying out some ALPS decals. 

I seem to have misplaced my cab glass inserts, and the way it's glued up I can't re-use one anyway.    Tips on doing glass without the inserts, that doesn't look like hell?

If anybody had a drawing of that or knew a source I'd love to get a copy, too.   Anything similar style would be of interest, too.

Get a couple spares from Atlas or Kato and use some canopy glue.
