I'll refrain from flooding this week's update with everything from the Anycubic Photon thread.  We've hit over 100 posts in just 6 days and covered a lot of stuff there!  If you're interested in 3D printing for N Scale, go check it out.

Here's just a teaser.  Yes, they are 3D printed!

The last risks have been mitigated and the Nelson shops are in to their home stretch!  Final assembly is done with only finishing touches - like awnings, roof flashing and weathering - to go.

I am glad I persevered with the latch idea to hold the roof elements in place...with a bit of reinforcement around the large, running shop portion, the approach works great.  The roofs are easily removable yet snap in place with a light touch and satisfying "thunk".  And they pass electricity reliably to the LEDs.

Next week I hope to light the running shop and stores building and re-lay the two exit tracks but the end is in sight!

Have a great Remembrance Day weekend

Diesel shop coming along nicely, Mark!

This week I finished decaling my three PGE ballast hoppers:

A busy weekend ahead with our PGE/BCR Modelers display at Vancouver Train Expo on Saturday and Sunday, an Open House here on Saturday night for the visiting PGE/BCR crew, and an operating session on Monday for same.

Best wishes to all those who have served their countries as we recognize you this weekend,

Congratulations on a really superb model, Mark!  That shop complex.. that's a show-winner right there!  I love the subdued lighting effects over the windows.

Another week, and now lights!  The yard light was especially interesting - Ngineering .018" stainless tubing and a nano LED - 0402 I think.

@mark dance - I think if you put a 1980s Atlas/Rowa GP9 in there and give it a couple days, it will come out re-geared, with a new Kato motor and DCC sound.  Or a working N scale EMD 567.

Amazing work.

I gave up rivet counting when I couldn't see an N scale rivet anymore.

Lol, that's funny, but I share the sentiment. Fantastic work...

Did you ever find a solution to tracks through the backdrop?

Long update here...  More pics in my layout engineering report (https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=41266.msg593823;topicseen#msg593823)

First, did a bunch of fascia work.  I'm using 1/8" Masonite:

Of course it'll need to be filled, sanded, and painted but it already helps the look by hiding the pink foam edge.

I also built a Main Street Heritage Models Soda Works kit that I converted into the Rico Ore Sampling Works:

My two Erie Limited HOn3 brass cabeese. The one on the left just came in the mail from Japan on Wednesday so I painted and lettered it the same day. They’re beautiful models that come in a reddish-brown primer. I like to use a silver Sharpie to do the railings and grabs. You do need to add couplers but the trucks are free-rolling and sprung. I need to find some square cupola marker lamps and theoretically I should also add roofwalk extensions to the 0400...someday. I did add the faded 1930s lettering on the letterboard for 0400 per prototype.

Last but not least, I started the benchwork for Ridgway Yard...finally!

Thank you Max but it isn't a show winner (or museum model) and isn't intended as such.  Those foam core board "heaters" are but one indication :) but close inspection will reveal lots of stuff where it falls far short.

And if this model were intended for that level of quality I wouldn't stick it right in the middle of a yard (as DKS noticed), with unrealistically inadequate clearance to talgo-coupled, microtrains-plastic-wheel-equipped rolling stock running on Peco track with (horrors) point-routed power!  I also would have resigned myself to one or two (more) years of my life to this project which has already forced me to cancel other aspects of the hobby I enjoy.  So, hey, we make trade offs.

It *will* enhance the experience of those operating the layout and know the prototype though...and I got to/get to solve lots of problems and learn new stuff.

but I digress...I will stop now before it is pointed out to me (again) that this isn't what the Weekend Update thread is for ...

Not worrying about it, Spades.  I painted some green which matches the backdrop a bit better, but I can always avoid it photo wise, and when running it doesn't really matter to me.

Jim:
My only complaint is that your photos still don't do your layout justice.  ;)

Having seen it live, group, it is better than his photos. Particularly how he blends the foreground into the backdrops. Seriously. And it runs as good as it looks...

Kind regards,
Bill

Everyone who has posted,,,great job.
Now for my feeble attempt,,,

Read Ed's winter articles again,,,grabbed some 3-4 year old super trees and rustoleum dark gray primer...boy those trees are brittle!!
I know they are crooked and not straight,,,just trying to get a "feel"
