My PRR class X31f ready for paint. The only things different from the original Fine N Scale kit is the roof, roof walk support brackets and pencil braces, moved brake cylinder, and the Bowser crown trucks, which will be replaced by the correct leaf/coil crown trucks later.

Lots of great material this week!  My late contribution is a work in progress: I'm upgrading an ancient Con-Cor funnel-flow tank car with parts from a Gold medal detail set and from a wrecked Athearn ethanol tanker.  In the course of doing so, I built a new base from a combination of brass and phosphor bronze parts soldered together:



The tabs will attach to the bolsters and the loose stanchions will attach to the tank.  I'd like to do this car if I can find suitable decals (anyone?), otherwise I'll do this one.  Have a good week.

Peteski:  They both worked for me at 0141 EDT.  With the added 403 error it sounds like either they were doing server maintenance, or the server glitched.

Jagged Ben:  It does sound like something sci-fi, but all they are is a centrifugal separator.  A motor and fan spins the air stream, causing particles to fly to the outside, and out of the intake air.  Somewhat similar to the "cyclone separators" long used on industrial roofs, but here the air is retained and the debris thrown out, instead of capturing the debris and releasing the air.

Thanks Tim.  I have a Mainline/PROX set for a white acid tanker, but not a black sulphur one.  I'm definitely going to check Central for a set when I'm able to get back there, but I was hoping someone might know offhand.  Mainline Decals does not seem to have a web presence.  (Highball has a PROX set for LPG tankers like this one, but the logo is too large.)

Edit - Looks like Microscale has a PROX set after all.

Pulled out my lone UP S2 to run the Oro Grande local/turn. Looks and sounds great! Not exactly sure that ever happened, I have pics of a NW2 and FM switcher on that job, but those are not sound-equipped (yet). Looks like the load will end up at Kaiser Steel, Fontana...

I purchased one of those Bergen Models station kits a while back.  Been saving it for a retirement project, but retirement kept getting put off.  Next summer for sure. 

It will replace my crude scratch built station I made by trying to scale photos.

Thanks Ron.  I'll try to remember to touch base with you.  After reading your posts, I opened it up again for another look.  I'm guessing there's close to 100 hours worth of work there to do it right.  That's why i'm waiting for retirement to take it on.

Here's another picture of the scratch built.  I compressed it a bit lengthwise to fit the layout a little better.  To get the Bergen model to work, I've redone part of the layout to add another foot.  I don't do much modeling during the summer, but with fall coming I hope to get back to work to get the layout ready for the new station model.
